I would have it appraised before you sell it or paint it. Painting it could dramatically reduce its value.

Have a table from my mother-in-law, similar style, but smaller. Took it to a furniture re-finisher and he brought out the best finish. We hated the dark stain & he took it down to original finish which no one suspected was there.......

Your table appears to be a valuable piece, so don't do anything hasty.

I would need to see photos of your rooms in order to make a recommendation. Of course selling it is an option but it sounds like you want to keep it.

I like Sharon's idea of checking to see if you can get it refinished in a lighter stain.

I'm sure it's not antique. My husband and I bought it retail in 1985 . I want to keep it because it folds up so conveniently . But it will look so out of place.

Restraining to an oak finish is an option?

I was considering painting it, or having it painted with a design.

Those are all options.....it depends on what finish would fit in with the rest of your room. I would have to see a photo of the room. You certainly could do something fun with the chair cushions.

I'd keep the table folded up until needed. Maybe behind the couch or just inside the front door. I'm not sure about the chairs. Maybe store the four that match the table and buy so e nice folding chairs to bring out when I open up the table.

I would decide first where you will be placing the table. How about placing it in the front hal and behind the couch and taking photos, so we can comment on whether it works in those places.
