Is this sectional too big for this space?

We are debating purchasing a sectional that can be configured into different dimensions, but we were looking at it being 154" long x 99.5" wide (basically a chaise, 3 seats, corner piece, then 2 seats). It looks really large, but our room is very large too (29′ long x 27′ wide) The space can handle it, but is it too much? We also have two chairs we want to incorporate somehow. I've attached a picture of the sectional we are looking at (this one shown is 125" long - which we could also do and is not the actual one - just a pic of one - same color though); and a picture of the two chairs in the living room we want to use somehow. The loveseat and couch will go somewhere else. Lastly, a picture of the living room before any furniture. I envision the sectional facing the fireplace.

The colour is nice and I am glad that someone is not afraid of orange

Size of sectional seems to fit in this space, not sure about the color though, it might be too 'orange'.

I love that orange couch. I think maybe if you moved the beige chair, you would see the nice tree and it would open it up a bit more.

If you want a sectional, I wouldn't get one with a chaise as well. It sort of blocks off that side of the room. Then, you'll be able to put your two chairs facing the sectional without looking odd with the chaise too.

We actually love the color and it is very versatile to configure. This room can really handle a good deep color like this (it's also in the fireplace, though you can't see from the pictures). This picture is a better representation of what the color really looks like (Ekornes Tigereye)

I LOVE the orange, I think people are so afraid of color. I have a school bus yellow sofa and loveseat in my media room and always get raves about it. That said I would agree with nixing the chaise in favor of a large ottoman for feet in which case if you have the space, which I think you do make the 2 seater a 3 seater and then add the chairs like Darzy mentioned. I have a nice large living room too and I love it, mine leant itself to 2 seating areas but I think that won't work for you so if you have the space use it, the bigger the better for your sectional. Have fun.

I like orange ( I have one myself). The only thing I'm a bit concerned is the shape of this sectional. Because of the chaise, I don't see how you could use the chairs as well. You pretty much close the area with this sectional.

We have the option of losing the chaise - maybe put it somewhere else - and can add pieces we need for a full sectional. We are debating about it. Should know more today. I think the rug needs to change - something lighter.

if it were me, i'd buy all the pieces now, in one batch, in the same color/style. who KNOWS if they're be available in that same leather later! and stash them in other places/other rooms if i don't want them all at once in one place. i LOVE the color, it's rich, warm, organic and feels very calm. i don't see any tinny color, i see a depth of color.

the rug in your photograph seems too pink/violet for what currently is happening in that room, and will probably look even more off-color once you bring in that warm leather. yes, i'm guessing you'll want a new rug too :)

Always buy leather in one bunch dye lots can change dramatically in a short time . I sold leather furniture for years and from one delivery to the next was always a change.

I think the sectional is great... ,most important is that it is comfortable. I would get rid of that chair. Too much furniture.

I'm not a fan of sectionals, but you have the room and it's a great color. I LOVE orange, and find it lifts my mood.

Looks like you have space for it, but you may need to eliminate your loveseat once the sectional is in. Consider the potential of a library corner between the stairs and FP using the chaise at the window and covering the wall with some good looking bookcases.

What a beautiful room! The color is of the couch is great too! I think it will look nice in front of the fireplace. I once had the bottom half of the walls in my living room painted that color. I really liked it. I had a dull green couch, dark stained wood tables & some terra cotta & turquoise (the color of weathered copper, not bright) accessories. My area rug was a large geometric pattern with dark orange, dark green, tan & black. I really liked it.

For those who know about leather furniture, what is your opinion of bonded leather? I've had people say that it peels and falls apart within 5 years. Is that always the case?

Why would you buy bonded leather? It is not going to last. Fabric or real leather can last. Vinyl,bonded lether,bycast ..... not!

Sondra, I asked to find out other opinions. Thanks for the link. Most furniture stores have many more bonded leather couches than actual leather & the price difference is immense. I hate fabric because I feel that its never clean. I would definitely prefer real leather.

Teambell, I don't mean to take over your thread. Just asking since you are talking about a leather couch too.

I am a big hater of bonded leather . Couple of families that I know had bonded leather sofas and one of them even had the store warranty but they did not want to fix it nor replace it. "Leather " ripped after just couple of months !! And they have no pets or small kids.

Personally I love the way your living room looks pre-sectional. Beautifully put together. So based on that I would say take everything you read here with a grain of salt and trust your own instincts - they are obviously good. :-)

We took the plunge - bought the sectional, actually two! I know it sounds crazy, but the store had the pieces we wanted and were on killer deals - a great thing when purchasing Ekornes furniture. We ended up with one chaise, 2 - 2 seaters, 2 - one seaters, and 2 - corner pieces. We are planning to use pieces as a couch in the living room (probably 3 seats), then use the rest in the loft as a sectional - tv viewing area/gaming, etc. This way we get the same dye lot. At least, this is the plan so far!

eightpondfarm - the carpet is rough, I agree. That is something that will change at some point to hardwoods. It's just that dog we have that still likes to run around and the husband who likes to play with dog...

Got it today - and LOVE IT! The color is more a rust color (not so orange as in pics). It's perfect to add some color and I really feel the living room is starting to come together. We are using it as a sectional and removed the brown loveseat. I'll post pictures later. Best of all, it all coordinates perfectly with some fabric I have that I absolutely love - I want to use it in the room in some way. That will come soon too! Thanks to everyone!

teambell, are you getting rid of the whole grouping of seats you had there before? I really like them & am in the market for leather living room furniture. If you are getting rid of them, I'm sure the chances of us living near is very low.

If you think room can handle that size go for it. But remember if you ever move it most likely would not work. That is down side of sectionals. Also do not go a bold color like you show. Looks orange? I would go a cream and bring in pillows and that very nice area rug for color. Not sure how two chairs would work, might be too much even in a big room. Why do you want to go soooo big?How many people are you trying to sit? Might rethink the size.
