@shayken: I see you painted your china cabinet, I love it! How hard was that?

Actually we bought the hutch in matt black. It came like that. We first ordered a brownish one that matched our table top but when it came in it didn't match the table and chairs so we decided to just go with black. It is awesome.

We recently downsized and remodeled the kitchen, updating all appliances, installing black cabinets, new granite and caramel colored subway tile as a backsplash and Fleur de Lis hardware! We love it!

Michelle S.,,,,I love your room!! Gorgeous!! I think new flooring would make it perfect!! (silver/black/gray travertine, or "gray or black ostrich" slate. )

Would like to put wood floors throughout but in the meantime I’ve added a Light Beige Sisal Carpet with Black edging……..it helped for now!

Any paint suggestions - we painted the trim and baseboards in our kitchen black but the slightest scuff mark shows up - we used enamel paint in a flat black (didn't want shiny baseboards). Any better suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you !

Beth, we are planning on putting almost black distressed bamboo flooring with large white baseboards and white crown molding. We are doing a complete remodel so everything is in stages

I like using black, mostly upholstery for me as I like the warmth of timber. Calm, practical colour.
I like black as long as it doesn't feel too dark and heavy.

My cat Kevin coordinates nicely with my black furniture :)

Should have got black dogs but oh well. I love black and white so I always have to be careful or it gets a little too much. I always wanted this piano and this house can actually handle one.

shayken, please tell me the color of black # paint you used on your door? As other's please share your paint cans with me. :) Love all of your decor. "Paint it Black" > singing this song (grins)

Hi Sherischart - we did not paint the hutch - it came that way. We ordered it from Canadel - http://canadel.com/en/ and it's the plain black.

My Palm Springs home I just bought is covered in black! A little too much for me, but I am trying to make do with some minor changes. One of the worst things are the black sinks set into the black counter tops. The sinks look awful with old water stains and never look clean, so I am thinking of replacing them with stainless. I have changed out the old black double ovens with stainless and will eventually change out the black refrigerator to a stainless one too. Any other suggestions for this kitchen would be appreciated.

Assuming you have a black granite sink?

    https://www.houzz.com/magazine/kitchen-sinks-granite-composite-offers-superior-durability-stsetivw-vs~8786293

Maintenance: While it can stand up to scratches and heat, granite composite does require careful maintenance to keep up its appearance. Wash it daily with a soapy nylon brush in a circular motion to help prevent stains. Dry it with a dishcloth after daily use to help avoid stains from hard-water deposits.

In this same article someone says they wipe theirs with polish (Pledge)?
Shelley - I love the kitchen too and I like the black sink. There has to be a way to clean it. I have stainless and mine gets cruddy too.
Thanks Sheri. I currently have black cast iron sinks with awful water stains. I am looking for something which will require less maintenance and look modern, so that is why I am considering stainless. Though I love the granite composite shown, I don't think it would work with my counters, which are black shiney granite.
Thanks Shayken. I guess I could get new black sinks, as mine are in very bad shape, but I really hate seeing every water drop and having to constantly be wiping them down

I have a small black metal table next to a new chair I just bought, oh, I just remembered I also have an antique black drop leaf table (was my moms). I never thought about using black in decorating but I have to say I love my little table. It just seems to elevate the look in my room. I just saw a small black box with black crystals on the top that I was drawn to, after seeing all these pictures I may just have to go back and buy it, :)

Gee I just was looking around and I also have a black chest in my nook. Guess I have more black than I thought, lol

Shelley Morgan: I think having a different fridge will make a big difference, and if you could paint the door a different color, that would help as well. You didn't say specifically that you think the black makes it look too dark, but I think the black counters/sinks look good in contrast to the color of the cupboards. (If the counters/sinks were light, I don't think that would work nearly as well.) There seems to be a good amount of natural light from the side, and the room itself is large enough to not look cramped because of the black.
I would be concerned that stainless steel sinks would break up the room too much. By that, I mean that the room already has several different counter surfaces, which is fine. But if you break up the counter color with a sink of a different color, I am thinking that may be confusing to the mind's eye. Add to that several comments I have read here on houzz from stainless sink owners who are very frustrated with them. I know there are many who love them as well. However, I can't recall having heard from frustrated composite granite sink owners--are there any?
And now that I look again at your photo, I'm thinking that maybe if you change the door OR the fridge, perhaps you wouldn't need to do the other. Does the room seem much darker and smaller at night with no natural light? Take a look at the idea of refrigerator-sized decals, if your only objection to the present fridge is that it is black.

Jeannie Nguyen I am enjoying your chosen color games immensely and
Responding to Luciana and her accent pieces being the color red..........
brings out my archives of black and white canvas paintings.

Dreams are usually in black and white and they being non-colors. In one tribal tradition black represents "hearing the truth" and gray is "honoring the truth". Should we use more of these colors honoring more truth these days? (grins?!)

What does white do for you? (non-colour) it is.
    Grays and blues?
Some relate to it as cold, depressing and claustrophobic.
And one client tells me Black makes her feel secure and warm as the other says grays remind her of coffins.

Studies of classroom teaching and colors have been a calm and soothing atmosphere with grays and black and white and when introducing color in classroom work has evoked a stimulating concentrative levels surroundings in black and white and grays.

I have one room dedicated to this color scheme and have found it is the only room that clears my head. It has been wonderful virtually touring all these black and white rooms and bringing it to my attention I think I'll remain with spying more black and white.

While you are dreaming in black and white (non color) what color 1st pops in to visit?
Meanwhile, I think I'll put away my paint box and start with black and white
and wait for your chosen color to play.

Thank you again Jeannie Nguyen for your series on colors. Can't wait for the next I SPY color game. :)
