Just needs a large piece of art work on the darker wall above the chair to help dress up that corner.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking :D See attached, it's not perfect but gives an idea, I still feel it could easily look too busy...

Thanks newman1958 - we really wanted the chair by the window but it doesn't fit the overall layout (there is a sofa across from the TV, if we move that more into the room it invades the dining area) I am hoping we can just find a good and minimal table or floor lamp

It took us ages to figure out the shelves, I'd recommend placing them higher (like we did) if they are above a chair so it doesn't feel like you're going to bump your head! Yeah its not quite there... art or a cool lamp, but like you don't want to overcrowd it

hey kshoa, do you mean the names of the paint? The dark wall is Crown Herringbone, the light is also Crown but is colour matched to Farrow and Ball Cornforth White

Lisbeth, I think you need a good modern style pharmacy lamp placed into this scenerio. I choose this Sonneman (7088-68) floor lamp, which could possibly be tucked in the spot next to the accent table. I choose this in the bright orange color to make a statement and pop of color that is needed, rather than more chrome.

The guitar may need to be repositioned a bit higher to make it work. But lighting is definitely needed in this corner for function.

I would also strongly recommend the 3picture idea below the shelf to the left. It's crying out for something here.

I also forgot to mention that the orange lamp is an excellent color choice to go with the steely bluish-grey walls.

There isn't a ton of room there and I'm concerned a floor lamp would feel cramped, would a small table lamp not be better? I prefer floor lamps but just think it would be a tight squeeze...

Lisbeth, if you can get the lamp to work in like the lamp in this picture, I don't think it would look cramped at all. It's something you'd have to experiment with. Function over form here. It's a tight corner, so things are going to be tight.

I also think hanging the guitar horizontally would solve a lot of the visual clutter issue. Probably a terrible suggestion, but something to ponder on.
