That's a beautiful furniture piece. A bold gray would create a dramatic contrast to the white and wood tones.

More pictures of other perspectives on the space are always useful, but my initial thoughts are a rug to bring more color into the space and ground it as it's own space. Also a chandelier what creates a warm welcoming glow over the entry goes a long way towards making people feel welcome.

What kind of rug would you put under it? A runner? Also mirror or art on the wall behind it? Also the thermostat is in the way....

Love the entry piece. With respect to the rug pull the colors that you have in the adjacent living room. And definitely a mirror above the piece. Have an electrician come out to move the thermostat - not that difficult - and then you won't have to hide it behind the vase.
