By awning, you mean exterior? Or do you mean more Roman shade, interior?

Exterior awning

This is a picture from inside. This room is one of our last rooms to update and I am at a loss. I want to decide if I should stick with the awning or take it down. Privacy is not an issue and I feel like it darkens the room during the day.

You should be able to pull up the awnings if you need more light in the winter and lower them in the summer. I would like to see the view from outside.

The frame is a fixed metal frame and the awning is attached securely. It is also too high to reach without a taller ladder. If pulled back, the frame would be exposed.

Yes , if you don't think you need that in the summer to keep the sun out, I would remove the whole thing. You have to be careful to minimize damage to the bricks, which there will be.

awnings have practical and decorative purpose BUT this one makes no sense. Never seen a awning over a bay window. Take down.

Have you lived there for a summer yet? If not, I'd give it a chance in summer and see if there was a good reason for the awning. Maybe they just wanted to be able to see who's pulling in the driveway without sun-glare & window treatments in the way. Is that your pup I see enjoying the view?

That is actually the side of the house. We do use that door as the main access to our house and a more modern awning above that door is a great idea. I am hoping there isn't much damage to the bricks. It looks like it is held up by 4 brackets so maybe I would just have to fill the holes in. Thanks again! I am leaning toward having it removed now.

He loves that window. We have lived in the house through a summer and I don't think the sun will be an issue. I love natural light so I think removing it will be worth any extra heat that the room may get. That room used to be a family room before an addition was put on the house so maybe the awning was added to reduce glare when watching TV? Just a guess. Thanks for your input!

Have you thought to have awning moved over the door. Personally I dislike entrance door without a cover. There is space above the door for this dramatic awning design.

Yes Kathleen, I just thought of that yesterday when I was looking back at the posted pics but wasn't sure if it was too big. Maybe change the cover to a solid color? I am always looking for ways to save $$ so it would be nice to reuse it. Would make me feel less guilty about taking it off the window and it would be nice to have that cover over the door. Hmm....I guess I need to take some measurements!

Darn. Just realized the frame wouldn't be flush against the house because it is shaped like the window along the back:(
