Sometimes it is nice to not have a rug under a dining table....little kids use it much? IF you feel the need for a rug, I would get a complimentary one and not one that is the same.

In most cases like this I would agree with "abbyjean", but each case is different. In this home I would use the same rug. I think as they are almost continuous, another pattern would be jarring to the eye and a solid would be boring. I would do the same rug. I think it will look great.

Can you get the same rug to fit under your table? Guessing so, since you posted this, huh?

You have a very busy look in the LR and DR. What about rolling the rug up and seeing how you like the room without a rug. Floors are beautiful as they are.

I really don't think there is a really busy look. The rug is the only pattern in the room. All the furniture, the fireplace, the floor..they are all solid colors. I would still do a second rug of the same pattern. It is the photo that makes you think it is busy.

I love your open floor plan. I would use two different rugs :) Here is a suggestion for the living room, as I would move the one currently in your living room to the dining room because it is more formal:

I think a simple sisal rug with a border in a color complimentary to the floral rug would be a nice.

No rug in the dining room and something...with the fireplace. It's fighting the room.

I agree with grobby...there is a lot going on in that room! No rug in the dining area....especially not the busy one as in the living room...Solid would work if its a must have.

Our home is similar to yours. As a suggestion, I would move your Living Room Rug to the Dining Area. (This would bring in color& pattern) In the Living Area I would use a Neutral Area Rug with a muted soft pattern in a matching color. (Not a busy pattern)
