Can the width of this shelf be expanded to 9"?

I absolutely love this shelf and feel like we have to have it in our tiny Brooklyn apartment to save sone space. We have a silverware bucket we would like to put on the shelf. It would fit lengthwise but has a depth of exactly 8". If the width of the shelf could be slightly expanded to comfortably fit this item we would buy it in a second.
