Your hardwood floors are stunning. How wide are the planks? What kind of wood was used? And what brand and color of stain did you apply? Lastly what type of finish did you use to give them such a wonderful luster?

    Hello tennis1mom!

Thanks for your interest in our project! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, we had to do some digging to find out the exact process...

The material is 2 1/4" oak wood flooring.

The dark stain required the wood to be "popped" with water prior to staining. This allowed the stain to be slightly darker than un-popped wood. The flooring company used a custom mixture of Duraseal "Ebony" and "Coffee" color stains to achieve the look our homeowner desired. Several batches were mixed and tested until we found the combination we liked.

The finish was a three coat Duraseal oil based polyurethane. They also mixed in a small amount of the stain with the 1st coat of polyurethane finish to achieve an even darker look to the floors. An oil based polyurethane was the only product that would work to help achieve the dark look to the floors.

This technique is not recommended for the DIY'er. Achieving this dark look wasn't easy, but it sure turned out beautiful! We hope this helps!
