Hi All...

I have a hard deadline to have my bedroom ready for human habitation, and I'm not making great progress. The painter is coming in less than a week, and I have no direction for him.

I have been looking through the pics on this site looking for color ideas for my bedroom. Sadly, my bedroom is not overlooking the Narragansett Bay, nor does it have soaring ceilings, or a fireplace, or sliding glass doors out to a big deck, you get the idea.

Instead, its pretty much a normal but small room. It measures 11.5 feet by 12.5 feet. The ceiling is only 7 feet 4 inches high. Each wall has something; two of them have windows, one the door and the last the closet. The pics attached show this. The floor is a nice light oak hardwood. There is no molding or trim at the ceiling, and the baseboard is ordinary clamshell baseboard, as is the trim around the windows and doors.

The furniture I have is a dark oak, with a king platform bed. Its fairly understated, with a small headboard.

My preference is for medium to darker colors, like browns and tans. I also prefer blinds to curtains. I don't care for light blue, green or pink. I'm a guy, and I want it to look like a guy's room. My original plan was to paint the walls a creamy beige color and the trim a darker brown, but I have been told that this is too 70's, it will look hideous, and so on.

The reason I was planning that was because I like a nice contrast between wall color and trim, and I'm concerned that colors on the walls darker than beige will make the room look smaller.

So, is there a way I can get some color, and some contrast, without making the room look small, 70s or hideous?
