HI - Beautiful house , reminds me of Tara -- Gone with the Wind --- anyway I think the doors you want would look nice . This is 2014 after all , so something up to date is fine .

When we moved into our house 12 years ago it had double doors that were drafty and ugly. We wanted a 36" door with two sidelights. Because of the width of the opening the only ones we could find had a slab door that was 42". We finally found a company that could do what we wanted by increasing the width of the jamb around the door to make up the difference. It fit like a glove and we ended up with the exact look we wanted. I'm at work right now so I can't find the name of the company but if you find a company that does doors & windows they might be able to find out who it is.

Your house is more traditional so I would lean towards a six panel door with either no windows or two small windows where the top two panels would be.

That would be a nice change, or before doing a replacement, think about painting red?

For your very traditional house I like Kevin's idea of a new paneled door with sidelights and detailed surround.

I like the idea as well, but love having double front doors.

I'm curious to hear what you ended up doing with your doors. Our house is very similar to yours and we're currently in the process of selecting new entry doors.

first off, great house, proportions were done really well (alot of these type of houses were done not so well) however the door is the one part that I'm not crazy about. while much about this house is "classic" the door is "dated". I would stick with a much more traditional entry that would suit your needs for lighting while keeping with the style. ditch the double doors and get a single paneled door with sidelights. (someone else suggested this) I would really encourage solid wood that hasn't even been stained yet and then you do a dark stain yourself (alot of these factory stains are coming out weird and are covering up inferior wood veneer) can all be done in a weekend and a contractor could quickly put in the frame with sidelights. I would be very picky about the quality and style of the entry, it's harder to come by these days but is very important. here's an example below
