I too, am trying to decide on kitchen cabinets for a new build. I've been researching for 1 1/2 years, looking at show homes, magazines and of course, Houzz, for inspiration. I am drawn to the new painted maple cabinets in gray/browns and gray/greens. Love them but I don't feel quite that daring for this project so I have decided on gray/cream painted maple perimeter cabinets and a medium/dark stained island with cream background granite countertops with brown/black/white flecks and streaks through it. Backsplash will be light brown glass 4x12 subway tile with similar/not contrasting grout. The cabinets themselves will be a hybrid shaker with one inner molding added. Martha Stewart has a similar cabinet door called "Wellston" which is new to her line but I am having mine custom made by a cabinet firm in Kelowna, BC. Brushed chrome pulls with flat clean lines for a contemporary look that, I feel, shouldn't look out-dated for a long time.
