      For some reason, bugs do not like being under a clear blue sky. A blue ceiling will keep bugs off of your porch as well.

      Mitch Gould, the Gullahs were on to it long before that. Centuries ago, they used a mixture including indigo and milk paint to paint their porches. It's supposed to ward off spirits that mean you harm, much like drawing a veve on the floor.
