As an Ethan Allen designer, I often design window treatments for my clients. In your case, I would suggest linen panels in brick red with decorative trim added to the leading edge and rustic, metal hardware. The window should be flanked by two coordinating (not duplicates) paintings/artwork or you could use a set of wrought iron wall sconces. I would rethink colorful drapery and opt for off white or taupe linen drapes with banding at the leading edge. To add to the rustic feel in a sophisticated way, use handsewn iron rings. I would add color in the artwork on the walls flanking the the windows and use a colorful fabric as slipcovers on the two head chairs. If you opt for neutrals at the windows, you will have more flexibility when you want to change the feel of the room with different colors in the future. Sometimes when we want color, the obvious way may not be the answer.
