I think doing the island in black with a white top and the rest black granite would look sharp and I would change the handles to stainless bar type handles if you can, it's a bit hard to see exactly where the holes are for the knobs you have now. Horizontal bars are nice but even just some nice stainless knobs would work wonders . If you are doing the island anyway why not make it wide enough on top for a couple of fun stools.

So glad you are looking at new surfacing for your cabinets. I would recommend a quartz surface like Caesar stone or Silestone. That would give you an opportunity to add color and interest. I like the idea of adding a vertical pull instead of the knob.

You have a lot of the same color of wood with both the floor and cabinets being so similar. I would recommend having the cabinets painted. Not wild about white, so try a nuetral color like a warm grey. You could even pick a grey that has a slight blue or green tint for even more interest.

Another suggestion about your island, add some decorative trim. You could add something to the corners like a fluted corner trim. If you do paint the cabinets, you can paint the island base a couple of shades darker in the same hue.

Keep in mind you cabinets are more traditional, although subtly so. Try not to go super modern as it will clash with those traditional aspect of you cabinets.
