You have dark walls, floor, and furniture, so the room needs contrast. I'd consider white wainscoting all around, with the gray on top all around, including the ceiling, maybe a shade lighter. That would highlight the crown moulding. Then choose an accent color - perhaps teal, magenta, or yellow. Don't overdo it.. Little pops in art and fabrics will do. Speaking of fabric, maybe do wall-to-wall drapes, on either side of the set of windows, usually kept open. A pattern would add interest, but not sure what your style is in the adjoining rooms. Last, add a bit of bling... a large chrome-latticed drum chandelier and a large mirror with a mirror frame.

As stated above the DR is dark.
I f budget allows a light coloured wallpaper opposite the window.

I would do a rectangular mirror a larger chandelier and a red rug! Look at the article on red rugs in idea books! It's awesome! Or maybe I'm just oscar crazy right now! (:

I think a large mirror on the back wall would help bounce off some of the natural light into the space.

Love the picture Mick50 posted! I think a nice sideboard and large mirror over it on that back wall would look great! Also a nice area rug and some drapes. Love the idea of the white wainscoting -- is it something you would consider?

Yeah I would consider wainscoting but I'm more focused on decor at the moment. What exactly is a sideboard? Do you have an example u can post ? Thanks !

And/or a citrus-colored runner? A colorful ceramic bowl in the center filled with lemons or oranges?

Have you considered adding a rectangular chandelier? It could add even more elegance and would be a nice complement to the pieces to you already have.

Yes to art! It makes a huge difference. Also the red carpet idea. Be bold. When you choose your new chandelier, get something at least twice as big as the one that's there. That, too, will make a big difference.

Move the art to the back wall to make room for a sideboard on the wall opposite the window. (A little brighter art wouldn't hurt, either.) Mirror to reflect the window, coordinating black buffet lamp and chandelier, row of modern vases on the table, patterned black and gray and white drapes.

I think you should move the art to the wall facing the camera and I would also move the bench to the same side as the window, this will balance the room better.

An area rug would be nice too along with the table runner and centerpiece suggested earlier.

That grey is awfully dead. You need something with orange to make it glow. A picture or print (maybe a Matisse collage, so bright and energetic) on the wall facing the camera will brighten it up. I agree with Addison Design, you should move the bench to the window wall, the chairs backed up to the window box it in. In fact I would push the bench up against the wall and break the symmetry.
