I love marble, too. If you love it, go for it - life's too short not to have what you really enjoy, I'd say!

But, marble is a stone and, like most stones, can be porous so, yes, you will have to give it a bit more tlc than a boring old mottled granite (which I liken to tombstones - it is the same stuff you see in graveyards, after all!). It's also softer than some stones. But if you love it, you'll be happy looking after it.

Which marble are you considering? Some are softer than others. I don't think it'll look brand spanking new in two years time, but it'll depend on how well you care for it.

If it were me, I'd get the marble I love, and have a honed finish, not the shiny finish. The shiny finish shows Every Little Scratch or Ding and I think that would drive you nuts, but the honed finish is much more forgiving, and ages beautifully.

There are really tough sealers that have years-long guarantees available, but I don't know anything about them. I'd be concerned, particularly with a whiter marble, that it would yellow over time, horrors!

If you're looking at darker marbles, how about considering soapstone instead, which feels like marble, but is a lot less porous.
