As long as it doesn't go under the tallest step I don't see anything wrong with placing the buffet on that wall. I'd set a single large vase on top with a large branch from a flowering spring time tree. I'd add some art on the wall from which you move the buffet.

The buffet could go on the wall where the stairs are or stay behind the dining table. Although I'd probably place a china cabinet behind the table since those are tall enough to be seen and to display your prettiest china or crystal. The point of the buffet is to hold hot dishes that there isn't room for on the table when you have it fully set and people seated. You'd pass a dish around then rest it on the buffet until someone asked for seconds. Alternately it can be used as a serving table for potlucks or informal dining. So actually having it where people can walk up and serve themselves from dishes on its top would make the most sense. It also makes a good place to have a punch bowl during the holidays. For everyday, I'd probably have a buffet lamp on at least one end of it and a lovely vase or other art piece displayed on it. Perhaps some candlesticks in hurricanes.

It could go on either wall, but will stand out more if you add something substantial above it. I think the room will look more balanced if you leave it where it is and just highlight it with mirror or picture and tray or vignette on it. Would it be possible to place a large mirror on the end wall to create a reflection of the buffet into the rest of the room. Mirrors are a great way to highlight furniture pieces that are not right in the line of sight

I did. I try to watch for dates, but sometimes, forget to do it. Then I spend so much time thinking about the dilemma, looking for pictures to post and then...poof!
