We're about to embark on a laundry/pantry room redo and I thought I'd put my plans up here to see if there's anything I haven't thought of or any advice from you great Houzzers as we put our final design together.

This room is currently a pantry off of our kitchen. Connected to this room is a tiny addition (5'1" x 6'1") that currently houses our laundry, and which we hope to turn into a bathroom in the future. In the meantime, we want our pantry/laundry to be a really functional storage space (we have a Victorian with little storage), and to have a nice countertop that I can fold laundry on and in the future, change a baby on.

We will stack our washer/dryer to the left of the current window, and hope to extend a butcherblock countertop and utility sink beyond that. We didn't add upper cabinets as it seemed like that would make the space seem too small and cluttered. We will use IKEA cabinetry as it will be cost effective and match with the cabinetry in our adjoining kitchen. The cabinetry will tie into the built-in shelving on the right side of the room (represented by a white barrier in the IKEA drawings as I couldn't easily add that into the IKEA kitchen design program). Here's an example of how we hope the open shelving will integrate into the cabinetry: The built-in cabinets will be redone to be a bit deeper (12" or so) and to have adjustable pegs.

We want to keep the project cost-effective so we'll have money left over to do the bathroom and other home improvements in the near future, so we can't change major features of the room or add super fancy-built ins. We will have hooks or a pull out hanger on the wall so that we can hang items to dry.

Does anyone have thoughts or advice from your own pantry/laundry redos? Does anyone have any pics from Houzz or other thoughts on how the built-ins should tie into the cabinetry to maintain maximum shelving space?
