Flooring Transition

I'm putting laminate flooring in my downstairs area of my house. I just wasn't sure if the down stairs bathroom will look right with the same flooring or should I put tile in the bathroom? Any idea please leave feed back.

Hi. My family owns a flooring business in Minnesota which I have worked at for the past 10 years (I am responding from my personal account -- not business so I just wanted you to know I'm no amateur). I always tell people that laminate in a bathroom is a bad idea. Especially because it's very susceptible to water damage. Personally, if your looking for a lower cost/durable alternative to wood flooring, I would look at luxury vinyl plank. It looks like wood, it's quieter, and it can't get water damaged. Otherwise, if you already are set on the laminate, I would consider putting tile in the bathroom or a luxury vinyl tile that can be grouted.

Laminate flooring is fine in a bathroom.

I would put tile. It should be more durable and since its a small area it should be pretty economical.

I've been researching this, too, and have decided to have porcelain tile put in my bathrooms, laundry room and hallway, the kind that are planks with a wood look.

Thank you for the advice. It is just a half bathroom, do you still think it will be that much water damage? I really like the vinyl plank idea might consider that also.

I have seen many times just condensation from a toilet wrecking laminate. Also, if you have children, water can be a problem just about anywhere. Just my 2 cents worth! If you like consistency with your flooring (too many transitions in one area can just be a bad thing), then I would definitely look at vinyl plank. Check out Karndean or Mannington Adura for luxury vinyl plank looks.

You can definite use laminate if it's just powder room/half bath. Unless your family or guests take a bath in the sink or are terribly "watery" using the toilet, you won't have moisture issues.

I prefer tile in "wet" areas. The potential of leaks ruining a floor is a big deal to me. A little toilet seal leak, overflowing tub, etc can ruin a laminate... But not tile! Plus, for some reason tile seems cleaner to me!

I put laminate in a bathroom and will have to replace it It all warped around the toilet Didnt even know there was a problem .......... maybe sweat? but it warped
