In case others are shopping for one of these, I thought I would share my experience. I researched the Eames lounge chair repro's from all the online sellers I could find over several months. I finally chose the version from Manhattan Home Design and I am delighted to report that it's absolutely perfect.

Scale, fit and finish: The proportions match the original perfectly. I visited my local DWR showroom and sat in the $5,000 version and took some photos when no one was around, so I had a good basis of comparison. I'm 5'9" and the back of my head rests near or at the top of the headrest. It is very, very comfortable.

Leather and wood: This version has beautiful leather (I chose the black italian leather) and the palisander veneer is gorgeous. Order swatches! I found the "aniline" leather to be too thin and too dull, so not at all worth the $249 upgrade. The "italian" leather is thicker and has a nicely grained texture and is not too shiny. Most importantly, it has the appropriate shirring, or wrinkles surrounding the buttons. This is sometimes called the "flower" and the cheaper versions are lacking here because they stretch the leather taut. Avoid the Kardiel for this reason.

Shipping: Shipping took about 12 days and came via Fed Ex, well packaged in one box. I had a problem with Fed Ex because they require a signature - so you can inspect before you accept - but they could not tell me when they would be at my home. I live alone, so rather than take a day off work, I had them leave it at the Fed Ex location near me and I picked it up myself. Fairly large box weighs 80 pounds, so you'll need an SUV and a friend. It fit into my VW Tiguan.

Assembly: It went together very easily, although the arm rests require 2 people. Turn it upside down (onto carpet or pillows) and have one person hold the armrest in place while the other turns the allen wrench. The flared end goes back, and the seams go down, so they're not visible once assembled.

Price: At right around $1,100 with shipping, the price was one fifth the DWR version, and also $800 less than the one from Rove Concepts, so I'm satisfied with that. The price for the one at Instyle Modern is lower but I don't think it is as nice of a chair and the photos are a mix of a chair that looks cheap and the Herman Miller.

I guess I sound like an ad for MHD, but I don't work for them, I just wished I could find better reviews online when I did my research!
