If you need task lighting try and find one with downlights and preferably on a dimmer .

I have a similar fixture (Ballard's Orb in small: http://www.ballarddesigns.com/orb-chandelier/210691?redirect=y) over our dining table. It is on a dimmer and it is PERFECT for the space. When it is just the two of us, we turn it on low but when we have people over we have it on bright and it is really bright! And the wires cast awesome figures on the walls :) I feel that it has plenty of downlight without being too harsh. Our old fixture was solely downlight and aside from being very hot, we felt like we were under a spotlight. Whatever you get, put it on a dimmer.
