Need help with bathtub/shower tile layout

Help! We're in the middle of a bathroom remodel and are second-guessing our tile design for our bathtub/shower surround. The surround is 5' long x 32" wide with a window in the middle. We're planning to use 12" bisque-colored travertine tiles with a band of mosaic tile (travertine/glass in strips-photo of a similar tile is attached). Our original plan was to put a 6" band horizontally around the sides and back of the surround under the window. But now we're debating not doing the horizontal band and instead putting a 12" band vertically from the tub to the ceiling in the middle of the faucet and showerhead. What are your thoughts?

I like vertical bands or full/half mosaic walls.
And I also prefer larger tiles in my shower, because of the amount of grout to clean. :)

I used the exact same tile for my kitchen backsplash and ran them vertically! Everyone comments on how nice they look. Hope this picture helps with your bathroom!

I guess I'm alone in that I don't care for those kinds of tiles laid vertically. Just a personal preference.

Do you have a picture of your bath or the area your putting it in? Though it may be an updated look it's best to consider the whole picture before choosing your final mosiac orientation.

Forgot to add I like the narrow tiles laid horizontal better.
I meant vertical band as in the surface all together.

Nice work churchij, i think it works because it follows the grain of the upper cabinets. Usually, I see tiles like these placed horizontally.

Thank you all for your input....it was very much appreciated. I couldn't post a picture because the bathroom is down to its studs right now but we had to make a tile decision so we could get the product ordered. We decided to go with the the vertical band from the tub to the ceiling since the fixtures we ordered have a very modern look to them. Thanks again. Without your help I'd still be second-guessing myself.

I have a window in my tub surround and this weekend I will begin the tile. I am doing the 6 inch strip of mosaic, same as yours but different color. My wall tiles are 10 x 14. I will copy the picture below with the tub. The other picture is for you to see the larger strip. Hope this helps.

My personal preference is horizontal . I have a marble shower for less than two years and it is a cleaning nightmare because of the grout required to do these narrow tiles. The marble was a big mistake as well . If the glass tiles are hit daily with soap they will be hard to keep clean. Good luck with your project.

I just bought this tile last night for my bath. I'm going to do a horizontal band because it will just work better with my bathroom layout, but your idea is going to look great! GO FOR IT!
