HI -- What a nice warm welcoming room . I can see there are some things left to do . It's the little last finishing details that are the hard things to finish. Maybe a tile that is close to the counter tops or the same material . Or a mosaic that is tortious shell colors ,-nice and rich with a bit of sparkle , and this will also relate to the fireplace . Then perhaps plan an accent color in the whole room so it doesn't get too brown . Maybe some soft greens and gold's or smoky rusts or orange's . I can see you do have a bit of the green already , so add some more like that and another color , maybe something with some pattern or strong texture . How about some cable knit looking pillows . Coral would be a nice in between up to date color to add . The ceiling could also have a tint to it.

If you think I should add a splash of rust. I have this coiled rug. I also have some rusty accessories from this other room that I can incorporate. As for the back splash, I would love to do a mosaic but am afraid of it being too busy with the fireplace tiles. Also, where would you suggest purchasing affordable back splash?

HI -- Carrie -- I think rust would be perfect and I love the gold walls in the dining room -- love the art work too. Yes mosaic can be busy so perhaps something more plaint or in a bigger format . There should be some discount tile shops you could check out . I have several in my city. Or any tile/stone shop should have a discount room . You could even do back painted glass . When you find something and go to install --- remove the 4 inch backsplash that is there now .

Have you thought of a simple white subway tile? Inexpensive and can brighten up your space.

Thank you both of you. So I should move the rust rug. That sure will throw a splash of color to that room! My Aunt also suggested the subway tiles. I am looking at those but am afraid that plain white will be too light. This picture shows it but it looks a little dark in this picture. When looking at the tiles on the fireplace and the base to the island, what are your thoughts? I really like the idea of a glass subway that is creamy in color.

I went to your website. What are the 37+ and 15+ assemblies? Looking at the counter top above and the rest of the kitchen do you all think I should go with a white glass or the ivory or beige? The rest of the room has splashes of green and possibly now orange. I love the idea of throwing another color in at random but want a color that I will stick with in the long run. Suggestions?

Oh! And I moved the rusty coil rug. It sure did add a splash of color. I love it! Thank you! Now I need to add a few more orange accents.

I have a similar problem - want some bling but not too much. I'm going with a white subway tile for one row, then a row of glass/chrome/mirror thin tile mix, two more of white, one of mix, then white again. This might work for you in cream for the white and a rust glass mosaic in between. You see this in bathrooms where a band of expensive mosaics are set off by plainer tiles.

Also, take the tile up behind the range hood all the way to the ceiling.

Which one for the backsplash? Attached is also a picture if the almond island base. All are glass subway tiles but the far right is a marble. The last photo is a picture if the tiles, across the room.
