I think it would be beautiful with the blue you prefer. It is a lovely feature, adding color would really draw attention to it.

I would love to paint it blue but my husband thinks that if we paint the circular ceiling we should paint the ceiling in the great room too. I don't want to do that. I just want to draw attention to this feature in the breakfast nook.

I think it deserves a little extra special attention....and blue is such a nice color to accent with. AND if it does not work, you just paint over the blue....you may end up loving it!!!

Navy. It could be a muted, ashy navy too. Pull the color into your living space via pillows, area rugs, window treatments. It would add a classy dimension to the whole area.

Def. considering a light blue now because I have lots of blue accents in my great room which is connected to the kitchen. I have throw pillows that are light blue and may try to match that color. Thanks to all. Lisa, I like the navy idea too and that would have been my second choice.

I like the light blue idea. It seems like a nice color to see a bit of in the morning, you know? If you are open to a bit of whimsy it might even be fun to look into actually having a tiny little slice of blue cloudy sky painted in there instead of just plain blue. (Nice spring day clouds, though, not threatening to rain clouds. :) )

I would go with a chocolate brown or the darkest color in your granite, I recently did the same thing to my ceiling, I painted it a dark steel grey and love it, dark colors on the ceiling draw your attention to the ceiling.

So sorry but I have to add something...........because your tray sections are shaped differently (round & rectangular) and sized differently I'd use Mid-range colors. You will see all of these together too and placing a dark color up there would (in my opinion.........jus' sayin') put more emphasis on it than they need. Your home has a light and airy feeling.

OK, now I'm getting into even rougher territory................murals on ceilings (again I'm just sharing my point of view) work well in interiors that are Baroque and formal. They are also a commitment. They will want carved, dark wood, gilded furniture to live with.

Thank you Jeffrey Brooks Interior Design for your opinion, I appreciate it, but in my case, this is a 2 story open foyer with alot of white space, it emphasis the fixtures and that is what we wanted, everyone who has seen it so far has said "WOW"

I think it depends a lot on the style of mural. A good artist should be able to take into consideration the existing style of the room when figuring out exactly how to paint things - heavy Baroque calls for a very traditional look, similar in style to the old masters, typically. In this case, you would still want it to look like clouds rather than abstract art, but you could go much lighter and more whimsical in style. I would suggest taking photos of the actual sky visible outside from the breakfast area and using those for inspiration for the clouds on the ceiling if you went that route - bring a bit of outside in, as it were. (I probably would not do a mural type approach on the other larger ceiling, though. A breakfast nook is a less formal space and it is a relatively small area. I would be worried that a mural on the large ceiling would overwhelm the room.)

I love the chocolate brown but am afraid it would be too dark for me. Haha, that being said I am posting pictures of the whole area and you can see all the browns and tans I have. I also was thinking of a mural but since my husband is doing the painting I doubt he would want to do that. I even thought about clouds, the big puffy blue and white that we tend to see here a lot in SW FL. But I nixed that idea since it's bad enough he will be getting on a ladder to do this. As far as painting the great room cove ceiling, I do love that idea but I figure I am only giving him one project at a time. I also wanted to paint the interior of the wall unit but he is a plain, simple fellow that is currently being stretched to the limit with my ideas :). I am posting a picture of my blue pillows since that is the color I may try to use. You can see by our decorating we are fairly casual people and like the light and airy look. Thus the white wall unit and no drapes. Thanks for all you suggestions. You have calmed my inner designer spirit with your encouragement.

Jeffrey, no offense taken, I respect your opinion, I am usually afraid of color, but I am very happy with my decision.

Thanks for posting the extra photos. Super helpful. That is a really nice shade of blue in those pillow covers. I think I'd go to a fabric store and get a few pieces of solid blues in shades you like; cut a slit to the middle of each piece and, with thumb tacks, put those colors up temporarily. This might help you and your hubs to visualize and feel the result.

You've got such a large and grand space. It's really a beautiful room with loads of fun-potential. Consider swapping out the lampshades for a blue in the same tone (maybe a bit darker); also the pendant glass for some that are blue dominant.

Change out that fan and get some sparkle!!!!!

If you use the fan go for something more impactful! That ceiling calls for it

I am def. not happy with the fan my husband put up. We def. need one though because we live in SW FL so the bling chandeliers would not work. One of these days it is going to Good Will. When I do replace it I will go with something with impact! I am in love with that cloud mural. What a great idea about going to the fabric store and getting some fabric to tack up in the space. I have such a hard time visualizing something and that would make it some much easier.

One of those Bahama-Palm Frond-Rattan-looking fans would be cool. It would appear to pull your outdoors in. It would be expensive, but a rather large one would be really cool. I live in Vegas and we see them in some of the casinos to accompany their decors (like the Mirage and Mandalay).
Have you ever considered a large upholstered cornice box at the very top across your living area window? Pushed all the way to the top---you've got such a high ceiling---and you wouldn't cut off any light from your patio. You can buy DIY cornice boxes to cover yourself with some amazing (blue?) fabric/trim.

Look at our glacé project to see an unusual way to treat that ceiling area.

Oh! What a beautiful home you have!!! I am visual, too, and love the idea of trying some fabric there to see what it would be like. And ya know what? It looks great just as it is, too!
