Hi Lola. You have a really nice room. Here are two options just a little bit off the beaten rug track.

It depends on the colour of your brick (and the dimensions, of course) whether either would work, of course. The first might sneak by on the basis of its terracotta pink; if not, the second might work better.

Hopefully this is a clearer picture. I don't have blue everything is fairly neutral - I have used red but would like to play down the red in the brick by adding a color - does that make sense? Also do I have to cover that much of the floor to make it look right?

Would like to keep the tree picture but the other red us coming out.

Did you try floating the sectional in the center with the chair from the left over under the tree picture? if you have room for that, you could add a sofa table behind it and you might use a smaller rug that way. Can we see a pic taken from the corner where the window is looking back into the space? Comment here and attach images.

Good morning from here, Lola. Absolutely keep the tree picture. I like coming to look at this thread because I really like looking at your room. A good thing is that it would take many different styles of carpet well; I don't think you're constrained in any way. So I picked out a few possibilities from Overstock that might help you get a direction. I've also sketched out two possible sizes for rugs -- I'm not sure I've left enough stepping-down space on the big one, but it is important that one steps down either entirely on to the rug, or entirely on to wood (with a second full step to bring you comfortably on to the rug).

Trying this rug. What do you think? Also opinion on other furniture and suggestions for accessories.

I like the different use of colors and patterns and styles in room. From my I-phone a little hard to see everything, but looks like a lot of different candles in room. I probably would minimalize those some and purge a little bit of stuff on table below tv. I also would probably either do simple straight drapes hung from ceiling to floor or two inch faux wood blinds. It seems u have a real grasp for balance in the room. Good job:)

Thanks tlparks - wanted to change the window treatments & your idea sounds good (I think the blinds would darken the room too much) but what color? Of course you're right about the candles - I tend to add & forget to take away.

I have 2-inch faux wood blinds,and leave slats open horizontally all day. Doesn't make my room dark. Seems to give more updated look. I would think ivory linen drapes, hung from ceiling to floor, and rod stretched about a foot outside each side of window so you can hang curtains barely skimming edge of window. I'm not a professional. Some other poster might give you better ideas. Good luck. Please post updated pics!

Ok here is updated pictures before & after. The rug has green it just hard to tell in the pictures (it "does not" have palm trees on it - a friend asked me that when she looked at pictures.) I live in Florida but def not a palm tree person. Still some tweaking to do looking for something to go beside tree picture & something for the coffee table but overall I'm liking the change - opinions?

love this room! i would just go light color on the rug so it brightens it up a bit. earthtones like green & tan.

I'm confused. Is the oval rug the new one? Why would anyone think it has palm trees on it, or was your friend being sarky? (Friends aren't allowed to be sarky, though I have one who couldn't breathe if she wasn't.) If I'm right about the new picture, I like the angled furniture and the rug. It brings in surprise colours, full of life.

The "after" picture is the sectional with the green rug. I needed to update from the braided rug (I've had for years). Yes the tree picture is from Pier One. I didn't like the leather furniture & husband wanted a sectional.

Oh, I think it looks so much more updated. Seems like you purged some of the candles (wink, wink), and got longer drapes for windows. The one thing that still catches my attention is the small lamp on the small table by the single chair. As much as you have updated room, that lamp just look outdated. Just my OCD kicking in, I guess. :)

Moved lamp and replaced with different one. I like the red in this lamp shade but probably needs to be a different shape?? Hard to take one good picture because the room is just open on one end. Thanks for all your suggestions!

Hmm... well, I like the red with the chair, but again, it has an outdated look to it. Yes, the shape is wrong. Maybe look for a drum shape shade.
