The fix is de-clutter and clean. Keep nothing (or very little) on the counters and front of 'fridge. Put the broom away. Repaint walls in white if you have time (they'll probably need several coats eventually so this will be like a first coat primer and save you time later). Don't spend money on cabinet hardware etc if you're going to renovate soon.

I would have to agree with j222b....de-clutter definitely. Then try to take some cabinets down and try open shelving or take the doors off the cabinets and paint them organize a bit. Get some rugs also, they add to a room. Paint makes a world of difference. Anything you can do to keep yourself happy until you can renovate. Oh and take the backsplash down and re-do.

I agree with both these post. When you "de-clutter" it will make the kitchen have a fresh, clean look. If you are in need of storage, you could get 1 or 2 large baskets to place on top and the refrigerator and use them for storage.If the cabinets are dingy sometimes a little elbow grease and great cleaner will help, if not repaint the cabinets and the walls. A clean white kitchen can have a lot of character when done correctly. Good luck!

You didn't say WHEN you might can afford a total redo. If it is going to be years. I would paint the cabinets and put on new hardware, take down the backsplash, and replace the counter tops with a formica that looks like granite. You only show one side of the kitchen, what is on the other sides?

Thanks everyone- melibd: it will be several years before I can afford a real reno- the other views of this kitchen are posted as well. I can't afford to do a backsplash or countertop replacement now- am considering painting the tiles.

I only see one picture. You can goggle painting tiles, to get instructions and paint to use.
