Although I applaud the idea of keeping the w/d near where the laundry is generated, I would not put them in the same room. The added moisture in the clothes closet will become a great habitat for molds and mildews that feed on fibers. It is hard enough to keep clothing sufficiently dry to not having spontaneous growth of this curse, without making the environment perfect for their growth with a Florida-like climate. A separate closet for the w/d is the way to go. In our house we have a room with two front loading machines face-to-face and cabinet space above. The small space between them is just enough to allow the doors to swing in mirror image of one another with the closet door open. We also made sure the walls of this closet were heavily insulted for sound dampening. We have to walk ten steps to the laundry room and can have the quiet Bosch machines working while we sleep.
