I am redoing my stairs. Box newels...paneled, square balisters, new rail. I plan to paint balisters and newels white and stain newel cap, collar and rail. My starting newel is 6 in. my secondary newels are 3 1/4. I am trying to decide to chamfer the secondary newels (there are 3 in my stair case) or leave them square like the balisters. Can anyone help me decide. I am on decesion over load. I am thinking chamfered. The edges are prone to getting dinged so why not eliminate that mishap. Plus breaking up the square balisters with a slightly different newels could be nice? Please help make what should be a simple decesion.
