Almost ready to select a finisher for my new custom made kitchen cabinets. Red oak, plan is to have them stained and then coated with a clear finish. Clear finish only on the insides since the stain we have chosen is dark, Old Master's Cintage Burgundy. My cabinet maker is great, they even dovetail the drawer joints, but the finishing will be done after they are installed, by someone else. Question is, what to look for, ask about, and consider when choosing a finish and finisher? Spray or hand applied? Pre treatment of the wood before stain? Pros and cons of various top coats ? I also worry about this procedure being done in my kitchen where the new floor is down and the walls are freshly painted.
