How is water on the upper deck handled?

Beautiful project. We have 1979 Deck House, and want to do the same thing. However, the standard 3x6 cedar TNG decking does not keep rain from leaking onto lower patio. Do you waterproof the upper deck, or is there a drainage system, or do you just get wet?

Hi Ed! The lower portion of the deck is protected by a rubber roof. Hope this helps!

Thanks! And it's good to know that it was a Buchanan job. The pictures show a TNG cedar ceiling in the screened room, and wood on the deck above. Where does the rubber membrane fit in? BTW, our house is in Marion, MA

The TNG you see is the standard Deck House roof decking. On top of that is tapered insulation covered in the rubber roofing (tapered so the water drains away from the house). Above the rubber roof is the floating deck you see surrounded in cable rail. Marion is a great area! A little out of our range, unfortunately.
