You already have a busy looking kitchen with the textured wood walls, knotty pine door trims and patterned floors. I think it would be better to just use one Gray for all, and not add more busy-ness by mixing things up.

I agree. Your colour choices are nice but paint the panelling the lighter grey, trim white and dark grey for the cupboards.

Kathi, what would be neat with the panelling if you can see it, is not to paint them gray at all but to use a color that is great with wood tones. Here at houzz you can search red kitchens, blue kitchens but the prettiest by far and themost neutral to go with all your wood decor is green.

paint every cabinet exactly the same because you are introducing contrast where everything was wood before. Don't paint the trim around the white doors. Paint the doors the same tone but a shade deeper - like bm creekside green

I know you just asked about paint and agree that your cabinets are all wrong colorwise, but you might consider changing the tile on the floor, too, perhaps to go with libradesigneye's color scheme, so in the green family. I love the walls. How old is your house?

I agree that color- green, red or blue- would look better; perhaps deep charcoal gray or black on the bottom cabinets if you think it's too much.

This house was built in 1900, wood paneling throughout. Would like to brighten it up still keeping the paneling in it's original state. Took the cabinets and drawers off from the bottom and are currently stripping them. They have become lighter! To tell you the truth I think I just want some color in that room. This house was moved to it's current location. There are doors missing, wood floors throughout, Thinking shutters for pantry doors. Wood trim along walls, not sure what to do about the dark wood along the top by the ceiling. This house is a work in progress! The foyer is also wood with white trim, I kind of wanted to tie it somehow together by using the color scheme starting with the kitchen. When the walls and rooms are finally done then the goal is to have the floors refinished.

If you love red, red would be amazing and cheerful. Paint all white doors an white trim red - back w photos of log cabins w red windows / trim as closest approximation.

What fun! My house is also 1900 and recently purchased and the walls are paneled similarly to yours, though only in the kitchen. My house was remodeled in the 30s, adding floor to ceiling cabinets, shelves, and drawers galore - kitchen, pantry, closets, office, and work room. I'm also struggling with what to do with all the wood. I love wood, but it's a bit relentless! Good luck with your project. P.S. I rather like the red-stained wood cabinets.

Why grey? Bleah. If you have to keep the wood paneling, then go with something that melds better, like green or burgundy. Paint the door too. Leave ALL of the walls as is. Add pops of brighter color on the door, with a rug, and some artwork. Hey, it is what is is until you can spend big bucks.

What color green are you suggesting? I really want to get it lighter, I am tired of all the wood, love it, agree to compromise to save the paneling and leave it be. Now is tearing the cupboards apart and stripping. Gray was a neutral color and like I said want to mesh it to go thru the house. The pics I posted is the dining room, the wall behind the desk will be whatever color the cabinets are.

I like the photos libradesigneye showed. If red seems too much, what about pale turquoise/teal/"ocean" painted cabinets instead of gray? Turquoise and brown are complementary. Normally, white furnishings look great against wood panelling, but white might be too much contrast on the cabinets. You could also paint the kitchen trim the same color as the cabinets as well as the interior of the kitchen door. Maybe replace a couple of the doors with glass cabinet doors and put beautiful old china pieces in them.

Agree that the flooring is a problem. I know the last thing you need is more wood, but maybe that's what's underneath the current flooring. Embrace it! Otherwise, light background vintage-looking sheet linoleum in colors that pick up cabinet paint would update yet echo your vintage kitchens, which were often covered in linoleum. Many new light fixtures echo vintage lights, so research those and get a large white fixture.

Two things to think about. Old farmhouse kitchens often had a big round table in the middle of the room. How about hunting for one then painting several old chairs in different coordinated colors? Or update the look with a beadboard island coordinated with cabinet colors, with an extended countertop for people to sit at?

It is wood underneath. We will most likely when we refinish the rest of the floors throughout the house that will get done too! The floor in the kitchen was one of the worse, can be refinished to look good! The table there is a little oblong, cherry wood, needs to be refinished too! When we can figure out what color and at least get the cabinets done we can look at getting other parts worked. Just so overwhelmed with trying to get one room done, my belief is I am not Samantha and wiggle my nose and get it done! Love your idea and taking them all in! Threw the red at my husband today, no reaction! We need a fan in the kitchen, hot out here, so I will be checking out a white fan with the 3-4 light fixtures that have open lights!

If you search on green kitchen cabinets, you'll find many ideas. I think a tin ceiling would be really cool.

Your plan seems very busy considering the wood walls. Choose a lighter warm gray for all the cabinets. The door can be a darker shade. And I agree with many of the preceding comments. You need a pop of color - window valance, area rug, accessories are the counter, etc. to brighten this up and feel welcoming. Red or green would be great choices. I also suggest a white sink, maybe a farm sink, and lighter countertops. The wood walls are beautiful, but absorb a lot of light.

I think, too, some open shelving with plants, colorful pottery, etc. would work. Swap some of the cabinet doors for glass ones.

The greens that bricklin suggested are good. They are light colored, which you need and want, and look good with the wood. Sorry, but tin ceilings are Victorian - your place isn't Victorian.

Tan/green is kind of where I am going. The dark brown trim around the top by the ceiling I was thinking same color as the cabinets, around the doors staying with the white, not the trim just the inside, shutters still for the pantry doors??? maybe painting them the same color as the cabinets? The door that goes outside in the kitchen the same color as the cabinets. Backsplash??? under the cabinets, just started looking at tile. Anyway this is where I am and of course I am so impressed with everyones help!

Built in 1900? Super high ceilings? Beadboard? Looks Victorian farmhouse to me. Either way, tin ceilings are definitely appropriate to the period. It's certainly not to everyone's taste; I suggested it in part as a way to deal with the ceiling trim, which doesn't match the rest of the molding in the room. If you can't change it to match the existing trim, I think it would look better painted to match the ceiling. I'd also consider adding a frieze below the ceiling to reduce the amount of wood and add color to the room. You could do this in decorative tiles, fabric or smooth, painted panels inserted between the molding.
Backsplash choices will be difficult due to window placement and cabinet arrangement on the stove wall. Black subway tile since the appliances are black?
