Coordinating 1970s carpet

This is our fabulous original carpet that we are keeping (before you all suggest ripping it out!) but not sure how to coordinate it with the original teak furniture & which colours to pick out. We tried with a pale green & it looks foul! Any ideas for textiles & wall colours to use would be most appreciated. The carpet pattern shown in the photo is about 2sqft so fairly in your face.

That carpet is fantastic! I have no idea what color to paint the walls lol.

With carpet like that you may as well go for it. How about a darker grey/greige for the walls. Then maybe something like salmon or apricot or even blue for the bed. Crazy modern light fixtures in white.

Is it more blue-ish or purple-ish? I think it's great that you want to keep it! I can see the gold curtains reflected in the mirror. They look great with the wall color you have now and so does the carpet. I'm assuming you want a fresh look. :)

Wow -- that is quite a statement! Since the carpet is providing a great deal of movement and attitude, I think I'd keep the rest of your furnishings in quiet harmony.

I'd want to find a way to bring the purple up onto your neutral wall by fitting a headboard behind, and find a mostly white/ivory bedding -- this example from a super quick online search is by Lawrence Khloe Bedding, and even it is a little busier than I was looking for.

Sorry, my computer's crashing, can't suggest art at the moment...or get my attachment to come up...I'll try again later.

do you want an authentic vintage combine look? as you already have the carpet and the furniture. Try the public library for vintage magazines and design books you may find it fun. I'd love to see how it turns out! I would say go for aqua walls with this shade of purple, not teal but a cool tone. Pastels are hot now and a resurgence of the vintage look and gold looks great with it....also watch some old movies for inspiration

Thank you all so much, loads of great ideas so far. I think we do want to pay homage to the 70s but with that fresh look too. I really like the bedding and headboard Bernhardt gallery, thank for doing that. And i see that the lamps make a real difference too.

    I like Barnhart Gallery's suggestions.

This teak furniture does not have as much red as yours does, but I like the warm gray walls, lavender spread with the orange blanket:

The warm orange blanket would tie in the color of your furniture, which I was originally thinking was red, but, in fact has an orange undertone.

Maybe you could do gray with the wall at the head of the bed in a dark purple from the carpet. Although, I think your wall color is not bad as is.

Here is another room with a purple and gold rug:

You definitely need new bedside lamps.

Thank you all so much for your comments. We live in the UK & I wrote this before going to bed (my husband wrote the second comment). I've woken up to inspiration. hanna1984 the carpet is purpley rather than blue & the yellow curtains do work but the are fairly hideous. The wall colour looks MUCH better in the photo than in reality! I might try & get a daylight photo but it a pretty dark & grey day here in Scotland. Barnhart Gallery your mock up picture is fabulous & the etsy link is great too. jn3344
Gretchen that's great advice, thank you & I think that a pastel shade might be a winner.
Houssaon, I'm quite embarrassed by the lamps now I look at the photo! All furniture inherited with the house, but I promise to get some new ones!!
    Thanks once again.

What an amazing carpet. I love the suggestions made so far. Also love the idea of really pushing this further. What about adding velvets (velvet curtains and headboard in a chartreuse green/gold that matches the carpet) and satin bedding in deep purple. Fringes would also add to the glamour of it.Lots of gold or brass accents and gilt framed pictures and mirrors would complete the look.

Love the carpet look at designs on Z Gallery they would be perfect for this carpet

Barnhart's idea board is fabulous! Updated, with some '70's thrown in too. Those lamps are perfect. Bright, fresh. Who had the idea of velvet drapes? I'd love to see those! Eggplant/purple maybe? What a wonderful find - real vintage. Lol!

I love this carpeting. I just gave this picture to another post but I think it's an inspiration here as well.
