I think it looks fine. Maybe a backsplash and more of a color on the walls is all you need.

It does look fine, but I understand the desire for some change. I'd go with a lighter counter and simple backsplash and upgrade the knobs and pulls to coordinate with the appliances. In fact, I'd do the pulls first and install some under cabinet lights before doing the counter, unless it's worn. Looks like a nicely maintained kitchen.

Thanks for the feedback - I do have lighting under the counter. Adding a nice back splash and knobs are great ideas!

Paint would be the most cost effective and a backsplash shouldn't be too expensive either :) I think your cabinets could look very nice, but they need something to contrast with -- the wall color blends too well with them right now.
