Should I paint the judges paneling in my den?

The paneling matches bookshelves that are along each side of the fireplace. I am trying to decide whether or not to paint the paneling. If so, do I paint the lower panels the same as the upper and then paint around the panels, doors, etc with a white trim? Any advice is appreciated.

Take it off!

We had dark paneling in our den---for years---like wainscoting (1/2 way up the wall). My husband said he couldn't take it off---the sheetrock would need to be replaced--it would create a mess etc etc…

Then, he finally agreed to remove it (because I am a persistent nag) and it wasn't a mess at all. Just needed a little sheetrock patching.

Looked SO MUCH better without that paneling! I should have been a better nagger sooner ; )

Yes, you could paint, but I think those upright things would still be too distracting, even if painted.

Just my opinion. Decide what would be best for you.

Paint the paneling and put a patterned or grass cloth wallpaper inside.
