Does Everything Really Have To Match?

I designed a bathroom for a home by the water in CT. I put Green Ming Marble Polished shower walls with pebbles same green color on the shower floor. The decos, bench seat and threshold Statuary Marble to get some contrast going, considering the bathroom floor is also Ming Green Tumbled. Now I wanted to use the same Statuary for the vanity top, but the costumer wanted Absolute Black Granite Polished. I was afraid it would not look right but could not get her to agree. The granite installer said "wow this bathroom does not match, you should have used Ming Green on everything!" Now I do agree the black looks harsh but is not too bad and as long as the costumer is happy, then..... But do most people match everything like Ming Green on threshold and bench and decorative decos and shower bathroom floor and vanity top?

I agree with Dy, in part. My feeling is the Ming Green countertop would have been too much and would have limited the colors of towels and accessories. But then, I like contrast, so....

Usually the finishes would match especially for a new or renovated bathroom.

Finishes like the tile finish polish or tumbled? They are older so polished floors would have been slippery and tumbled is too delicate in a shower.

It is all about balance. You can mix colors/materials as long as each compliment each other. This can be pulled off but it sounds like there isn't much relationship between the MIng Green, Statuary and esp the Black. Start with the Ming and pull something form it and so on...Example, try pulling the Burnished Orange from it or if you pull white it will be likely a creamy white not crisp white. Once you have the dominate pattern which in this case it the Onyx it would likely be either a solid or a geometric repeat pattern I would suggest to place within the space. You may want to go with a Man Made quartz for the top such as the Caesarstone Buttermilk. See how the 2 work nicely below

Thanks Amy that makes sense. I have a hard time telling costumers not to use certain material and colors because they are set on it. That's what it looks like but it's in already I will Def take this advice for next time.

Thank You for letting us help out. It looks like the Ming green is a bit more blue here so the whiter Statuary doesn't look bad at all. The pallet is soft so the black may be a bit heavy. I know it is very hard to steer our clients in the right direction esp when you know it could be so much better. It is our job to educate them and encourage but in the end they may feel strongly about something and we have to hope that even though it is not our first preference in the end it at least okay. I would layer black accessories around if the top ends up black. Frames of Mirrors, pictures, towels, make it work :)
