But I would put dimmers on pretty much anything (that makes sense to have a dimmer on it) and / or motion sensors etc and they usually have some kind of rocker switch with it. i.e. Lutron.

Rocker switch is easier to operate.

Actually, you don't want the emphasis to be on the hardware. Take a look at the many custom features Lutron offers and I'll bet you'll forget about your current concern.

jn3344 is right - get dimmers! It's the least expensive and easiest way to create ambiance (I have no relationship with Lutron. I just have their products in my home.)

I use Lutron too like the nice clean look.

Rockers are for contemporary/modern and toggles are for traditional/transitional. What looks cheap are plastic cover plates compared to metal. Our home has all Lutron Decora with a bunch of Maestro dimmers. Most fun are the remote control dimmers for the lights above our whirlpool tub and indoor hot tub!

Sound like motion sensors would be good for that.

We have Decora switches and sockets. Sometimes it's the small details that make a room feel polished. Another benefit is any and all face plates are interchangeable because they all have the same size rectangle, which adds to the uniformity and makes them visually, more pleasing.

I almost forgot, another benefit is being able to change out the switches to something more useful, like a count-down timer, for the bathroom fan, or astronomical timer, for exterior lighting, as well as a wide variety of fan/light combos and dimmers.

One of my outside, light sensing sconces wouldn't go off during the day. It stayed on 24/7. I was going to change out the sconce, but I couldn't find it. Finally, I installed an astronomical timer in the Decora switch box. I put in my latitude/longitude and the current date, and they automatically go on/off w/ sunset and sundown. So now, when I replace those lights, I'll get what I want, instead of only ones w/ a bulky light sensor attached.

This is an old thread, but I must chime in and say that I also came across those Legrand Adorne switches and I just love them! We are currently in the process of replacing all our "ordinary" switches throughout the house. Makes a world of difference in terms of the functionality and the looks too, i.e. no more visible screws and their sleek design is a winner!
