HI there, thanks for the question. There are actually 3 lights in the ceiling that can't be seen due to the angle of the photograph. they serve more function than concept. There are 5 different sets of switches for that room allowing for different moods or highlighting different angles of the ceiling. It is difficult to get a sense of scale in the photo, but the ceiling is around 32' high at the highest point. Lighting was necessary to accentuate the height. Hope that helps! Melissa
