Downsizing to a MCM ranch that we are renovation/remodeling before moving in. With so much to do, I'm considering updating - instead of replacing - the existing window treatments for the following reasons:

Currently have vertical blinds in living room (bay), dining room, kitchen and family room...
- The four windows are large; the hardware is already there and in good shape.
- I can order new "slats" from ReSlat.com - woven wood - not inexpensive but overall will save about $600 if I were to go with my first choice (replacing all blinds with woven wood roman shades)
- Updating the blinds rather than replacing will allow us to continue painting - no need to remove hardware, patch holes, wait for new hardware, etc.
- The blinds will be open most of the time.
- Even the current vertical blinds really don't look too bad (except for their color) - they do offer a clean line look which is what the house calls for.

I know everyone dislikes the look of vertical blinds but with updated slats, do you think it could work? I've ordered samples of the woven wood slats and two fabric ones (in case the woven wood doesn't offer enough privacy).

The total cost to replace the slats with the slats I really like (of course, the most expensive at $9.50/slat) will be approximate $1,000. At this point, though, cost is secondary to the convenience and time saver of keeping existing hardware.
