My first thought was a big yes until I examined the other elements of your space. You have a lot of traditional furniture in there so maybe the fixture you suggested is a bit too modern. I liked the drum shade posted above, more updated but not too modern considering existing decor. Have fun.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I see the orbs all over and like them, but maybe i am stretching it for this space. I like the drum and am considering on of them for our dining room. The house just turned 10, so we are looking to do a few updates, especially some of the lighting which were selected with limited options.

you need something lighter in that space, it seems dark.

We get a lot of light in the space, but we do migrate towards darker colors. Here is the rest of the space. It seems a little cluttered. Might be time to re-look AT&T the whole space...

Love the orb. Don't see it as being too modern or too anything for your space. It works.

The orb would go well with the counter stools too (hint, hint). Maybe if you put a mirror over the desk instead of the painting, the mirror would reflect more light from the sliders.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think we will give it a try. As you can see, we just kinda buy what we like and don't give too much thought to cohesiveness. Worse case scenario, we send it back.

Good point on the mirror. We do have a large one over the mantle, so I don't know if it would be too many mirrors.

yeah the orb would look great seeing the back side of the room, i do like the one with the mini chandelier in the center for a little tradition. I think your island pendants are too heavy for the space. I see you like colored glass, i would take a lot of that stuff off the upper shelves and get colored glass pendants. or red farm house pendants

Why not switch the mirror and painting...just to see how it would look?

I'm afraid I don't think it's right for your space. It's too dark, too contemporary and too small:(

I think you need something with more visual weight. This type of fixture is most effective in a pared down space so you can see through it. You have a lot of artwork/decorative elements that obstruct the fixture. I think I would go for a solid drum shade in off-white instead.

I'm inclined to agree. It kind of disappears in the space because there is so much color behind it. Ugh.

That is really nice looking. Definitely would be a focal point. One concern when I was looking for a fixture was blocking the view from the kitchen work area or the family room as we spend a lot of time talking back and forth during dinner prep time.

That was my concern with a more substantial fixture. Maybe there is no way around it if we want something that works in the area.

I do agree though, that fixture would work better over that table.

Here's a simple drum shade pendant that would lighten up the space and tie in the curtains and neutral tones of the counters in the kitchen. What size fixture do you need?

The drum shade is probably the right fixture and was recommended earlier in the post. No sure what size. probably 22" - 24" round.

I'm not a professional - but I think it looks really good. It is a dark finish, like your kitchen pendants, and it is open so it doesn't obstruct sightlines. It also adds a bit of contemporary flair to a traditional space. Just my thoughts : )

That's what we were trying to do. Update the space a little without overwhelming it.

I don't think it's a complete miss, but there are probably fixtures that work better from a design perspective.
