Choose the counters first, then the backsplash. They'll stick around much longer. You're doing it backwards and locking yourself into a pretty dated style with the tumbled stone and then trying to find something to work with it.

Agree with above comments. Travertine looks old, and not in a good way. But, if you love what you've picked out don't commit until you do have a countertop.

thanks for the input- I have to say the travertine image on their site looks nothing like what it does in person- surprised at the negative feedback for travertine- it's all over showroom floors and recc to me on GW. I feel that glass tiles are more trendy- what material backsplash do you recommend? below is an image i took of the tile installed at the tile store - much better image i think ;)

soberg, by a "jerusulem limestone look" in engineered material are you referring to a quartz or was there something you had in mind? I looked up the Jeruselum limestone and it is a nice look but I don't want limestone bc of the upkeep and hight maintenance of it. :)

I call was referring to engineered stone such as Silestone or Caesar Stone, in a color that resembles Jerusalem limestone. Many people call this engineered stone "quartz", but as a materials scientist, I can't bring myself to use that misnomer. (Calling Silestone "quartz" is a bit like calling your hardwood floor "trees".)
