I would bring your furniture in a little closer to each other. The skyline picture - hang it behind the sofa - a bit lower than you have it now. Buy some pillows with burgundy in them to pick up the color in your carpet. A floor lamp.

Paint the wood door and molding a solid color and brighten the walls with paint. Afterwards change the flooring to 15 X 15 tiles the

Then add a larger area rug.

Add some warmth to those shiny white tiles with the largest wool rug you can afford in a modern dynamic design, preferably encompassing all the furniture. Add a large coffee table and accessorise it to the max to create a central, inviting focal point for the room.

Oh and remove the clock and the mirror (?) and add another print to the other wall. That city skyline print is hung too high!

Try taking drapes down or using a vibrant color drape. Place the tv on the wall behind the couch and shifting the room around so that the focus is towards the other doorways (perhaps making it cozier). If you can, paint the walls a vibrant color to make the room sunnier.

Fun pillows on the furniture, bigger, bolder rug on floor, and try to 'hide' the speakers as side tables between the furniture...arraigned the furniture in a fun and non-conventional way...ie chair side angled in corner, couch (or love chair) where TV is in your photo...

Is the ceiling pine? It would explain why the spacious LR is surprisingly dark.
Consider lightening it first with paint.

Some side tables and lamps to provide more lighting.

The existing rug is too dark and too small for the space. The room is large and the furniture can be placed closer. Consider a 9' x 12' rug in a neutral tone.

The poster/artwork is hung too high. Is that a wall mirror to the RHS of the tv?

Hi, thank you all for the help. I guess the general consensus is that my rug is too small, that would have to be the first thing I change. The ceiling is pine and on the RHS of the tv is a mirror. I was planning on having a display cabinet where the skyline picture is, will that work? Picture of the cabinet attached. Any color suggestions for the room..thanks again

Will the skyline picture look better here? I am working on the other suggestions, 1 of the speakers will be moving soon and 3 A3 pictures of my wedding will go behind the sofa.
