My niece, who is a real estate agent, just built her dream home and has these exact cabinets..they're gorgeous. Maybe it's a regional thing? Definitely not outdated here...

I think the extreme black island contrasting with the cabinets is outdated.

If you mean antiquing or glazing instead of a simple plain paint finish, then yes, you are seeing far less of that these days. A simpler less fussy aesthetic has become more mainstream. Full blown modern is not as comfortable of a look for most people to live with, thus the combination of modern's streamlining effect with traditional touches, like painted cabinets. Do a search for ''transitional'' looks to see what's the popular look these days.

But, if this isn't a spec house being built for sale, put in avacado cabinets and burnt orange counters if you love it!

I agree with Cristina about the red walls. If the walls a lighter color and the cabinets won't stand out like they do now. So the cabinets might be fine with the right color of paint.

I would strongly suggest getting cabinets that go to the ceiling with no dust catching ledges.
