Well, I've been researching both. Both are sturdy, but I was told that fireclay has more a an enameled clay pot look (a little more rustic). Depending on the quality and size, you can spend anywhere from 600 - 1100.00. I found Kohler sinks on Amazon and they are a lot cheaper. They make a Whitehaus or Dickinson model sink that's nice. I have hard water and I hope I'm not making a mistake getting a white farmhouse sink!

What are your needs? Do you already have a dishwasher or will you wash your dishes in the sink? What color are your appliances? The sink doesn't have to match appliances, but it looks nice when they do.

I just got this sink at Lowe's. It's a one basin stainless steel with faucet included for $259. Not my original choice, but now that I have it I love it! I would have loved a farmhouse sink or one basin cast iron, but they cost a lot more. The faucet is great. The end pulls out as the sprayer & is high enough not to get in the way of bigger items. I had them turn the on/off handle just like it is in the picture so when I turn it off with wet hands the water just drips back into the sink, not on the counter. You can have the handle put on the side if you like that better. I use my dishwasher for everything except large pans & bowls. Cookie sheets & 9x13 pans never fit in my 2 basin sink flat. They do in this one with plenty of room left. This sink is standard size so the hole in the counter is the same as it would be for a 2 basin.

Double or single depends on your preferences. Do you wash large pots and pans frequently? Have you ever had a double?
Definitely go with fireclay. There are more affordable options, starting at about $500. How tight is your budget?

I have a dishwasher, but also wash pots and pans in my sink. Appliances are all white, I believe I would like white fireclay. I hadnt thought of cookie sheets, they wouldnt fit if I had a double bowl. I like the thought of prep, and clean, soaking, etc. But if at least pots and pans would be hard to fit or a 9x13 that would defeat the purpose. I like the faucet!

I have a double now, but its 70 30 and I hate it. I will check out your website. I was hoping for about $500 and want a 36 inch sink, the ones I have found that I love are more like 900.

I like the Langlade sink from Kohler- it is double equal, but with a short saddle divider.

If budget is tight, farmhouse sink will likely not be your best bet, unless you really like the look and want to splurge. Have you been to any showrooms?

I am sure you have heard this but it is important to know when it comes to sinks... You get what you pay for.
Visit a showroom room and work with your salesperson on budget and function. I seem to do 80% single bowls and 20% double bowls. Between the best manufacturers it is Rohl and or Kohler. I know there are others in the industry that are not as "high end" but if you are doing a farm sink you are going for specific look. You must see and feel each sink to make your final decision. Not all sinks are a bargain. You get what you pay for.
