I would start small with something like throw pillows. Here are a few ideas:

Hope this helps!

There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. I think you have a good start, with some great basics. But the fussiness is what's throwing you off. And yes, the red is outdated.

Rug- drape panels -remove accessories. Remember " Less is more".

Blue and beige work well together-- almost any shade.

This is the same room - looks more comfortable/relaxed but still a wow!

Just wondering-- are you all really tall, or watch TV standing up? I think that needs to move down quite a bit too.

It looks really nice but I would hang those mirrors without the bows and get some block style grommet curtains but hang the mirrors two outside up or the middle mirror up a little. The two small throw pillows are fine, I would buy two bigger square pillows to sit behind those in each corner but pick one of the colors that's in the small pillows.

I like the idea of using the blue/ teal instead of the red. I think there are to many scrolly items in the room. I also would remove the bows from the mirrors;)

I think there's too much dark colors going on and that's making the space look a bit dated

I can't believe you have such light colored couches with a small child! If you really want a "wow" factor and don't want to change out your furniture, I'd actually consider painting a wall red, changing out your lamps, painting the fireplace mantle white, and changing out the curtains for something brighter - still red but with white or gold maybe. I could also see your existing walls in a marigold color. The beige (is that what it is?) is fighting with the red.
