VerNida, you have a lot of vertical lines going on. I would paint the trim the same color of the wall to help the cabinets blend. To balance the wall, I would shorten the mantel to slightly beyond the brick on both sides and would paint white. I would remove the two small shelving units on the left and look for a bookcase that is wider and about the same height. Good luck.

Very helpful response. The entire house color scheme including the adjoining kitchen cabinets use my favorite Claret color, even the 3 year old window treatments, and the hall closet are claret :-).The smaller cabinets are temporary/ placeholders recycled from a relative.
I want a curved bar for that area with a circled shaped mirror.
Appreciate your expert opinion, will paint gray!
