I need help with my front door. This is a house built in 1940 and the wood front door and wood storm door are original to the house. The brick is multi colored, the roof reddish brownish - darker than the brick. The shutters are a reddish brown. The trim will stay but the front wooden storm door has to go and as well as the wood entry door.(?). Am thinking about going with another wood door - painted - with a storm door over it - Minnesota weather. The garage is the same color as the trim - A taupe color - and is attached to the house and visible from the street.
The pots are a blackish grey - leaning towards black. I WAS thinking about going with black door and shutters and a storm door is needed HOWEVER - this is a west facing house with a lot of sun hitting the front door so even with UV glass, was told I would really have a hard time with black on the door. So - I am looking for guidance as to door color, storm door color, shutter color, and door hardware, as well as light fixture colors. I also would prefer to NOT get rid of the Japanese grasses that give it the punch of color it has in the front. So - input would be greatly appreciated. Should I paint the new door the color it is now, paint it the color of the shutters, or go off the wall??? (Sidelights would also be replaced and am also thinking that the sidelights would also stay the color they are today - only new.) Is not a huge house from the front. Your input is greatly appreciated. Oh - the railing today is about the color of the shutters. Where do I go from here?????
