Distance between Island and Table

Hi everyone! my kitchen is all planned out and then I went looking for some other dimension online and saw a number that scared me! I have 60 inches between my island counter and my kitchen table. this does not include chairs. is this too narrow for a walkway? both island and table will have chairs backing to eachother. there is frankly nothing I can do about it now but I would still like some input so I am prepared. I do have a designer and I have left an email. thanks so much!

I am wondering how kitchen turned out? I did wonder if you need 4 feet to 6 feet to have room for two chairs back to back plus a walk through space. Hard to get that much space between chairs

help please! Is it minimum 66 inches? I can live with it but wish I had room on the other side to spare but I don't. my other side of the island (which opens to my fridge, bev fridge etc) is 42 inches. bummer

I have essentially the same layout. Not completely built yet, but already planning to get a narrower table. Should be okay though as your walkway won't be compromised unless everything is pulled out at once, eg barstools and chairs. Your walkway can be, I think much smaller than what you're thinking.

I have just 40" and have never felt it was too narrow. I have a large table, but it all works.

you have 40" from table to island (not chairs)? I've pretty much decided to add 2 chairs to the end of my island and shorten my island by 4 feet. this means my island will measure 8 feet by 3 feet (including 13" overhang) with a 15 " overhang at the end making the total length 9' 3". this went down from a 12 foot island this morning. I am going to sleep on it and will make a final decision in the morning! good night and thanks!

It's plenty for your kitchen table; I'm an interior designer, my husband an architect, in our kitchen we have 47" from the end of our island to our round kitchen table (I'm sitting there now and just measured it). 36" is tight for 2 chairs on the end. The passage between the dining and barstools could get tight when entertaining but not impossible.

Your spacing should be fine. The only time I can see it might be tight is if you have both island stools and table chairs pulled out, with people trying to pass between the two. But odds are that you wont have that scenario that often.

I would like an update too. I have 52” between table & peninsula counter edge with seating. I think it will be okay, since we will not often use both table & bar seating. Thinking of getting a backless bench for that side of the table to reduce the footprint a bit & using backless stools at the bar as well. Would love to hear how yours worked out.
