Extremely difficult and not recommended. I suggest a quartz product that resembles marble. Check out Caesarstone.

Marble is not perfect - know that and accept that. It is absolutely stunning and should you have some sort of stain then you can have them polished out. We have Calcutta marble in our kitchen - on the peninsula that seats 10+ people, we have had a piece of glass cut the same size as the peninsula. This protects the marble from everyday accidents for the most part. Best of luck on your renovation!

That's an interesting idea, Menage, of having a glass to protect the marble!

I really wanted Carrera marble on or kitchen island, but between the sink being in the island, my husband, my toddler, and my constant worry of staining and etching it didn't seem worth it. I ended up using Caesarstone in London Grey, and I'm so happy with my decision. It gave me the look I wanted and the functionality I needed. I did use marble in my master bath and laundry room. Neither room gets as much abuse as the kitchen, so I don't feel so stressed about using it in those rooms.

I feel your pain. We have a soon to be three year old and love the look of marble but will probably get something more practical, in part for resale value. If resale wasn't an issue, I might go for it.
