- 12 years agoSo I have 2 dogs. And they are like brothers (even though ones a French Mastiff and the other is a mix). Once I came home from my brothers baseball game and there were feathers EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!! There was also trash in my room and the living room and the kitchen and the basement!!!! As you may have guessed, the feathers came from the pillows and so then there weren't pillows on the couch for about a week until I went and bought new ones - and I made sure that there wasn't any feathers in these ones!!!!Emily Hurley thanked Katniss Everdeen

- 12 years agoThe funny stories are way better , but I was just reading someone's post about a dog who suffocated after getting into the trash. These nose- in-bag stories are so sad but true. I remember seeing an Irish Setter in the hospital who had gotten her head stuck in a Funyuns bag ...and died .
- 12 years agoI am propped up in bed laughing out loud!
We had a Yellow Lab when the children were young. Best natured dog ever, but overall, dumb as dirt. Every New Year's Day we always had a big drop in/ open house -- big spread with all kinds of fancy food. I had made this beautiful pork loin, had put it on the table to "rest" before slicing it just before the guests began arriving. I had left the dining room for a few minutes, and when I came back in, man's best friend (not mine at this point) had jumped up on the table and grabbed the pork, knocking off several other dishes in the process, and was crouched under the table chewing on my beautiful pork loin. What was formerly a sweet ole dawg had a primitive, wolf-like glare, protecting his catch from the Serengeti of my dining room. And yes, soon after he trotted off, he puked all over the mud room where he was supposed to be to begin with. Needless to say, food was in short supply for that year's party.
Years later after the Lab met his maker, I downsized to a Bichon. I'd had friends over to meet a mutual friend's fiancé. Leon, the Bichon, waited until after the humans had finished dinner and were having coffee in the living room, to stroll in and, standing in the middle of the room, vomited up a used feminine hygiene product. Silence of astonishment. I won't even list here the possible responses that went threw my head.... I had never heard of such a thing! There is no graceful way out of this, I will testify to that right now. Fortunately, we were all good friends, except for the fiancé (who never came back, now that I think of it). - 11 years ago
When we first got our Brittany, "Ripley" nine years ago, he was extremely rambunctious. When he was three years old, we were cooking a St. Patrick's Day dinner of two three pound corned beef rounds. We had spent the day boiling them and getting dinner ready. When the two rounds were done, we placed them on a cutting board to cool. There is just the two of us, but while we were eating dinner, Ripley was nowhere to be seen. Normally, he would be begging at the table. We thought that he was just being a "good boy". Yeah. Sure. After dinner, I went into the kitchen to put away the left over food...and noticed Ripley out there lying in his crate looking sheepish. It was then I noticed that the corned beef was GONE. There had been a half of the one we had cut up, and the other 3 pound still uncut. All of it was gone. We looked at Ripley and thought, NO....he couldn't have. Well, he did. About 4 hours later, he puked corned beef up all over the living room carpeting, all over our brand new sofa...a custom made job....and then jumped up on our bed where he liked to sleep a lot, and puked on our bed as well. The mess was awful...but I was more concerned about him eating all of that, and took him into our vets office the very next day as he was still acting kind of sick. Our vet gave him some stomach meds in an injection and pills to follow up with at home. Then told us not to worry about it, that since he puked it all up, he would be fine. Ever since that happened, they have nicknamed him "Corn Beef". Whenever I bring him in for his routine checkup and shots, they laughingly call out "Corn Beef, you're next..." I love that office; we've been their clients for over 30 years. Here is a picture of "Corn Beef Ripley".....

Now I would LOVE to tell you about our OTHER Brittany, "Isabelle". She is two years old. Isabelle has gotten herself into more trouble in her two years and has definitely cost me a lot of gray hair. She has escaped on us four times. Twice, we got her back without too much hassle. But when she was just 7 months old, my husband was going out of the front door and I was coming in...and she saw her chance and took off. But, she did not run to the open field behind our house, she ran straight for the very busy main street that our street runs off of. It was during rush hour traffic on a Friday night and all I can remember is screaming my head off as was my husband too....we were both screaming her name to stop, to come back...she was panicked though...she was running back and forth across the street in front of cars, trucks, and busses....and I kept screaming and crying begging for someone to help...this young fat guy was coming down the street and she ran right towards him...I begged him to grab her but instead, he shouted at me that he would SUE me if she bit him! I was so furious that I told him that the dog would not bite him, but that if I ever caught up to him, I WOULD bite him. He refused to help us. Isabelle kept running, totally panicked...cars and trucks were screeching their tires, slamming on their brakes, and this bus was coming and I thought I was going to pass out from fear...I kept begging GOD to make her stop running and to come back to me. I kept crying and calling to her. Finally, she was getting tired from all that running, and she made one last leap back into the middle of the street...I got a burst of energy and with sweat and tears covering me, I said one last prayer and God heard me. Isabelle, ran right towards me and into my arms! I collapsed right in the middle of that street amongst all that traffic and just held her and hugged her and cried like a baby...sitting in the middle of the street, all disheveled from running, so out of breath, and all I could do was hug her tighter and tighter and kept bawling like an idiot...cars were honking at me to MOVE but I just sat there holding my baby. My husband caught up with me and gently but urgently pulled me up out of the street with me carrying my Isabelle...thanking God out loud all the way back to the front door she had escaped from. I don't think I let go of her for at least a couple of hours that night. She slept in my arms that night and I kept thanking God over and over. I believe that he had His hands around her the entire time...because not one of those cars hit her and I don't know HOW they missed hitting her! Anyway, here are some pics of that little snot....

This was Isabelle as a 7 week old puppy...this next shot was taken when she was just over a year old........
And this is Isabelle today......happily chewing up one of my sneakers and the box I had just received them in.....what a total brat. I THOUGHT she was the worst dog I had ever had...but
see my next post.....

Now. Let me introduce you to "Little Sherlock". HE is INSANE. We should have named him "Lunatic" because he honestly, IS one. Though I love him dearly, he has me totally beside myself. He is only 10.5 months old. I cannot get him housebroken no matter WHAT I do. I have stood outside with that dog in freezing temperatures and the entire time he runs and runs in mad circles chasing his tail, then turns around and charges at ME, jumps up and SLAMS into my abdomen and has knocked me right on my butt more than once! He will do this over and over and I have stayed outside with him as long as 1 hour and 15 minutes...he will do NOTHING...but act like a lunatic...barking the whole time wagging his tail, chasing his tail, slamming into me, etc. As soon as I get him into the house? He lets loose EVERYWHERE. Since his is a SHELTIE, and this is a SHELTIE TRAIT, they like to "travel" when they poop! So he leaves POOP TRAILS everywhere! He will start in one room, and walk and poop into the next room and the next, etc. I am running behind him catching it if I can, but mostly I miss it...what a mess he can make! But, that isn't the worst of his behavior. He recently chewed up brand new Sennheiser headphones that my husband bought me for my birthday...totally destroyed them. They were one of the less expensive ones at $150! He has gone through 4 pairs of shoes...my shoes. Three of the pair, I had not even worn. They were still in the box. He chews boxes open...and whatever is inside. I've lost count of the hardcover books he AND Isabelle have chewed to pieces...one book was NOT a good book to destroy...he got hold of our BIBLE and turned that into confetti. The TWO of them LOVE to get hold of the new packs of paper towels and toilet paper. We shop at a wholesale club and the packs are large and usually contain about a dozen rolls of toilet paper and/or paper towels. They chew up the plastic wrapping it, then take the rolls out and unravel them all over the place and make a total mess.
I knew we were in trouble when we first got ISABELLE though...I forgot to mention this in her post....I was sitting here at my desk one day when she casually walked by me carrying a QUART of cooking oil in her mouth! I went back to my work, and was wondering what she wanted with it, and then my BRAIN kicked in and I flew after her...just as she punctured a hole in the bottom of it spilling oil all over the place.
Now, just about 2 weeks ago, I was sitting here again at my desk when I noticed a really horrid, putrid smell. I could not figure out where it was coming from and could not identify it. I kept working at my desk and wondering what the smell was and then realized Little Sherlock was not at my feet or anywhere that I could see him...and so I got up and followed the smell...into our CARPETED KITCHEN. Little Sherlock had chewed open a FULL GALLON OF APPLE CIDER VINEGAR and it had leaked all over that rug...and STINK? LORD! We had that sour smelling stuff all over the carpet and I can STILL detect the scent of it today. He made such a mess of it. He has gotten into every trash can in the house, emptied them, AND has chewed up 35 pair of my UNDERWEAR! He pulls them out of the laundry and then he and Isabelle have a tug of war with them and totally destroy them. I started out with over 40 pair and am now down to 11 pairs left. They have also taken my socks out of the laundry and done the same. I have spent more money on socks and underwear than most other people do in a year...
Anyway, let me introduce you now to "Little Sherlock"

Here he is at 7 weeks......
Here he is getting his first bath after rolling in GOOSE POOP outside....
And here he is TODAY. This is one of my favorite photos of him. His ears popped up and stayed up. His breeder told me that I should have "glued them down" when they first popped up. I think she is NUTS and so does my vet. I would NEVER put GLUE on any of my dogs! That is Ripley behind him in the background. As bad as he is...as nuts as he is...I love him dearly. He puts his little head on me every night when we all go to bed...and they all sleep in our bed with us. Ripley doesn't though...he prefers the sofa.
And now....meet my little Shih-Tzu...."OWEN".
This was Owen last Halloween. He IS as devilish as he looks. He is 7 years old now and has calmed down somewhat, but still guards his toys and cookies like they were gold...lunges at any of the dogs that even LOOK at his "loot". He never has his tongue inside his mouth. It is always sticking out like that. He loves his new groomer...they all do. But their previous groomer, none of them liked her. She was nasty to Owen but then I know he can be an uncooperative brat when he wants to. I have tried to groom him myself...and gave up after one try. He will twist and turn and flip and flop, and just refuse to let you do anything to him. Out of the four dogs, he is the best behaved. He likes to "snitch" on Isabelle though. She is a counter surfer and everytime she is surfing, Owen has this peculiar bark...he lets out a deep, throaty single BARK to let me know Isabelle is up to no good. I always tell him "Owie, nobody likes a squealer". But he squeals anyway.
I also have 2 hamsters and 3 parakeets, 2 Bettas, and a tank full of tropical fish!

Another cat story...
I got up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water. I am pretty good at navigating in very low light and kept the lights off as to not wake my wife. As I set my glass on the kitchen counter, I touched something greasy, and knew this wasn't right. We had cleaned up the kitchen after dinner. So I turned on the light ...
There were little orange paw prints everywhere ....
We had made a big pot of spaghetti sauce and left the pot soaking on the counter overnight. Our cats are trained not to jump up on the counters, but this night, one was breaking that rule ... probably smelled the pot sitting there. I imagine that the cat, in the dark, encountered this, and struggling to get a taste, decided to jump over the barrier that was blocking his progress. Much to his horror, he wasn't counting on four inches of water, and found himself in a bath-like situation, prompting him to panic, jump back out, and flee madly from the kitchen, all while getting no traction, due to greasy paws.
Following the trail of paw prints, I saw where he later meandered into the bathroom and casually peering into the open toilet, likely playing with the water inside. Further tracking lead me to find him, hiding in the second bedroom, desperately trying to clean himself.
To accurately draw a picture for you, you have to understand that this was a well-bred cream colored Persian cat. He had a perfect flowing coat that dropped to the floor. You could rarely see his legs as he walked through the room.
Here was this cat, with the perfect coat, and a perfect orange stripe from mid-body down to the floor. Upper part, cream color, lower part, orange .....Too funny ....
Much to his horror, he found himself in yet another bath-like situation, shortly afterwards.
- 11 years agoLms Mms, do you get the feeling that Shih tzu are called Sh&t tzu for a reason? My Shih Tzu is not completely housebroken and she's at least 8 years old. I've just learned to live with it.
YES I DO, LOL! Owen still craps on the floor occasionally and it drives me nuts, but I, like you, have learned to live with it. I have also found that everyone I know with a Shih-Tzu all seem to be alike in their character traits. One example, Owie will place a piece of his dog food on the floor beside his dish and then "dares" anyone to try and take it. He also will TRY to EAT his poop...I have to watch him like a hawk because when he's outside in the backyard where I take them to potty, he will try to grab it but I am quicker than he is and I manage to stop him from that filthy habit! There is a product you can put in their food to discourage that nasty behavior. I've never tried it though because I don't like using stuff like that till I check it out with my vet.
What is your adorable little girl's name?
- 11 years agoRecently I discovered that when the cat steals cheese, his gas can run all of us out of the room, even from a deep sleep.
When I hear a pffft then the sound of him taking of, I know to be prepared. - 11 years agolast modified: 11 years ago

One night we were expecting my husband's childhood best friend and his big brother to come in from San Francisco and Maryland, let themselves into our house to refresh themselves, and then come over to our restaurant for dinner. As a peace-preserving precaution, I took our rottweiller/blue tick hound puppy out for a long off-leash run in the woods. On the way back, I noticed that her ruff was full of horse poop, as if she'd found a big steaming pile and rolled in it. I took her home, shampooed her, put her in her crate and ran off to the restaurant.
Hours later, my husband's friends came in for dinner, more than an hour late, ashen-faced, with wet hair and badly in need of a cocktail.
Apparently, the brothers decided to let the dog out of the crate, and she promptly vomited equine poop in every room on the ground floor. Instead of calling for backup, they used six rolls of paper towels valiantly trying to clean the hardwoods. The Oriental rugs were a bigger dilemma. They moved all the furniture and dragged them into the driveway to be dealt with in the daylight.
They did not choose to have the chocolate mousse for dessert.

Lms Mms, my Shih tzu is named Chloe. How cute she is depends how close she is to her last grooming. Fortunately, that was last Friday. She's always very sweet, though, even when she needs a bath.
In our previous house, we had gotten Holly Go Lightly, our second English Bulldog while I wasnt working. Several months later I went back to work and she had terrible separation anxiety, OR she was just really pissed at being left home alone, and ate the window sills (the windows went almost floor to ceiling so she could lay there looking out the window and chew, the corners or all the baseboards, and the stair ballisters. Not to mention shoes.

Got called away for the day and asked one of the staff to lock up the dogs and puppies - came home to find that she had locked the 2 dogs and 8 puppies in my house instead of the dog run! They ate the stuffed fox on the chair, destroyed the zebra skins (we live in Namibia) on the floor and managed to open the fridge and spread all the contents over the floor - not to mention all the dog poop and pee on the carpets and around the rest of the house!!!!

Whatever the mishap these pets create, they always win our heart by giving their unconditional love and affection,,,,,,,
- 11 years ago
Just got a new puppy - a Bavarian Bloodhound - forgotten how much work they are with all the messes - but you right - wouldn't want to go through life without my dogs. Got some great ideas with the special mudrooms with specific places just for pets - have to redo the kitchen (the termites ran off with the last one) so will incorporate a special sleeping area for the fox terrier under a counter - never seen that before or even thought of that either.
My story doesn't compare to the best of above, but I was still furious at our Irish Setter. I had made a cinnamon walnut coffee cake, from scratch!, to serve my Grandmother for dessert. The cake came out of the pan perfectly and I set it on the counter to cool. Next time I saw the cake it was on the floor, half eaten. Lesson: If you have a big dog, put things up HIGH!!

We lost our little miniature dachshund last Fall. He was my daughters but I was "babysitting" when it happened. The following is a note I found recently (I must have written it when I was in mourning and didn't remember). "Mommy and Grandma loved me, I brought them so much joy. Daddy and Papa meant business; they gave me the tough love I needed. All of this made me the little guy that loved all of you unconditionally. If I could have talked my one question would have been; why in the HELL did you name me Cosmo? I didn't like it so that's why I never came when you called me; you should have named me NOW!!
Patricia, I am so sorry to hear about Cosmo. I love dachshunds because they are such characters; mine is asleep right behind my back. It would appear that we're literally joined at the hip.
- 11 years agoWe do a great deal of entertaining for business purposes. we once had a fish fry for a bunch of people with the Construction Industry Institute. The husband had cooked and we had eaten our dinner when all the guests wanted to meet all the show dogs. Unbeknownst to us the little buggers had snuck out of the kennel and lapped up 5 gallons of fishy oil. They came into the formal dining room and proceeded to throw up on EVERYONE and EVERYTHING! Every guest looked at their watches and said.."Oh, I must be going....lovely party." I paid my carpet guy big time to get all the emulsified fat out of my white carpet.
- 11 years agoWe had two previous golden retrievers that were the best boys, both passing way too soon with cancer. Silly us decided one more time and just got this guy, Arlo, aka Devil Dog. He has been so destructive I wouldn't know where to start...some of his antics: he loves water, so anything to do with the toilet or shower, he's there, having to replace or paint most of our baseboards, counter surfing to the point of eating plastic wrap and styrofoam too. But the most embarrassing to his parents was diving into a neighbors pool uninvited. Twice.
We're counting down the days until he can be neutered, but we also know someday he will be that good boy..praying for it.
- 11 years agoWhen our cat was 6 weeks old he learned that playing in the toilet water was fun. Unfortunately he wasn't big enough to reach the water with his paw while staying balanced on the toilet seat. We had to save him from the toilet on several occasions because he was also too small to crawl out of the toilet on his own. Now he's 14 years old and 20 pounds.

The first night I had a newly-adopted Lab-Malamute in the house (a rescue, 8 years old) something I fed her gave her diarrhea so I had taken her out 3 or 4 times before bedtime. She woke me up a few hours later as she desperately looked for a place to "go", finally choosing the furnace vent in the bathroom floor. Talk about aromatic.... She turned out to be a great pet, though; I had her another 8 years.

We use a LG robot sweeper to clean up the apartment. Our small Australian Silky Terrier the other day made poo and seems like a tiny bit went off the poo-pan. I never happened before. The sweeper went on the tiny bit and drag it under the wheels and the brush bringing it almost allover the house . We have tiles but also a couple of hand knotted rugs. It was a bit of the mess and a couple of hours of cleaning, plus dimantling and cleaning the robot....yewwwww..poor us! In a way also our fault not to have fully overlook our small pet.
No, she is afraid of the robot. Perhaps she did it on purpose trying to poo on it??!! Oh no..!!

Those who depend on robot must be very careful about their tiny and naughty pets. This ll never happen in India!!! We don't use robot for house hold work. Feel like having one silky for me..... Very cute....

Well..you've the most expensive residence in the World, in India :D
Indeed, Aussie silkies are the best!

the dogs did this to this nice old rug of mine. but it's not just been this rug....they've destroyed probably...oh...i'd say maybe six or seven nice Persian rugs. and a pillar on the front porch. and a doorway.

my mule, Ollie, however has been The. VERRRY Most destructive of all. he's destroyed a few gates, killed a lamb, a couple of chickens

and a cat. - 10 years ago
A Bukhara rug seems to me. I've seen your nice collection of rugs, nice indeed!
But I guess your dogs are larger and more fierce than my little one...
yeah, bukharas... washed them and sun dried. prior to binding the edges of the destroyed one. our dogs average 50lbs. some dogs weigh more, some less. sometimes it's not JUST dogs that take their toll on the rugs! (this is Ultra Lamb and Punkin)

- 10 years agoOur little sweet Riley has created many a headache. We were gone two weeks had a house sitter, he loved her, but didn't pay attention to her small eliminations on our hall carpet. We walked in the door and my nose got it right away. Pulled carpet and laid cork floors (faster than planned). Many a Christmas a gift is dropped at our tree (never thinking to ask is it food or chocolate). We have gone out and come home to full boxes of candy thrown around and many parts eaten. I can't believe an 11 pounder can handle it the way she does! She likes chocolate with orange by the way. One year she tore apart an
Adventist calendar, one day at a time. We are so fortunate her little heart has made it. This year I will be extra careful.
Sign me no chocolate at our house please.
We love her, pain that she can be

LOL you guys are reminding me of a Christmas prank that went unnoticed by my sister and brother-in-law, who had three dogs and two cats. I snuck a plastic poop under their tree while visiting Christmas Eve. Kept waiting the next day for the accusations to fly and laughter to ensue, but...they never noticed it wasn't real and had just scooped it up, tossed it and cleaned up, like any other day/any other poop.
